Deacon Terry Duren

Deacon TERRY DUREN, a beloved husband, father, and friend, life’s journey began on September 27, 1954, with his fraternal twin Jerry in Carroll County, MS, to proud parents Jessie Lee and Katie Lee (Haslett) Duren. He was one of 13 kids. Both parents and five siblings, Jessie James “Jim” Duren, Willie Roy “Nim” Duren, Needom “Ray” Duren, Ira Faye “Chuck” Duren, and Brenda Duren, all preceded him in death. Terry became a Spring Hill CME Church member in Carrollton, MS, at an early age. He attended Marshall Elementary, and J.Z. George High School in Carrollton, MS, before moving to Chicago, IL, in 1977. He worked for Sears Distribution Center for over ten years. Terry later worked as a machine operator before returning to MS in 1997. Terry’s spiritual journey led him to Bear Marsh Missionary Baptist Church in Carrollton, MS, and East Percy Street Christian Church, where he remained a member until he moved to Atlanta, GA, in 2000. While living in Atlanta, GA, Terry worked for Emory University (2013 - 2015) and South West DeKalb High School (2016 - 2023). Terry moved his membership to Christ Sanctuary Fellowship Church in 2002, under the leadership of Bishop Sammy D. Mulkey, where he remained a faithful member until his transition on December 16, 2023. Terry met and married the love of his life, Rosa Nadine Scott, on December 17, 2016. Terry and Rosa embarked on their tour of the world and went to many places that Terry had only dreamed of. Terry was a hard worker who loved Gardening and a devoted husband who worked hard to provide for his family. On Saturday, December 16, 2023, God called Terry to his heavenly home. He leaves to cherish loving memories with his wife Rosa; daughter, Joynice (Steven); his son Terry T (Aysia); three grandchildren, Noah Duren, Terri’A Duren and Josiah Duren all of Roselle, IL; two bonus sons, Tavis (Shamica) Jackson, Decatur, GA and Travious (LaTrice) Jackson, Stockbridge, GA; seven grandchildren, Amire Rabon, Jaydan Gatling, Nishon Jackson, Tavis Jr., Taliyah Jackson, Angel Latney and Sydney Jackson, Decatur, GA; three sisters, Missie Marea Wallace, Carrollton, MS; Oleavia Thomas, Greenwood, MS; Martha Ann Nalls, Bellwood, IL; four brothers, Howard Ellis Duren, Willowbrook, IL; Joe Earl Duren, Minneapolis, MN; Jerry (Martha) Duren, McCarley MS; Forrest (Kim) Duren, Chicago, IL; two sisters-in-law, Bobbie Solomon, Decatur, GA; Janice Smith, Lithonia, GA; three brothers-in-law, Harold Scott, Atlanta, GA; Terry (Mildred) Scott, Atlanta, GA; James (Linda) Scott, Atlanta, GA; and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins, also Spiritual Advisor Bishop Sammy D. Mulkey and his entire church family. Terry shared an unbreakable bond with his bonus son, Trey, his niece, Quitta, and cousin, Pastor Michael L. Nalls. During his most difficult moments, he enjoyed every moment he spent with them, and they enjoyed him more. Terry will always be remembered for his unwavering love and for never meeting a stranger.
