Sarah Lue Jemison

A Life Well-Lived Mrs. Sarah Lue Jemison April 21, 1943 – January 14, 2025 Sarah Lue McCoy Jemison was born to Wade and Ella Mae McCoy on April 21,1943 in Macon, Mississippi. The elder of two children to Wade and Ella Mae, Sarah devoted her life to her family. Sarah received her formal education at Brighton Elementary and Brighton High School and with the ambition of one day becoming a nurse. That ambition remained a steady focus until she met Joe Jemison, Sr. on the campus of Alabama State University and the couple was wed January 12, 1966. The times of our nation required the service of her husband and as Joe completed one tour of duty in Vietnam, Sarah continued to raise their first of two sons, Kenneth Lance. Sarah fully enjoyed her life. No doubt, the evidence rests by her primary hobby: caring for her boys and her family. It was November 1969 and along came Sarah’s younger son, Joe James, Jemison, Jr. affectionately known as “Jamie”. From family, family friends, and members of the Highland Park community there was always room on the carport or in the house for children, family and friends. If anyone knew about the key, they always could gain access to the house and all the spoils it offered. Sarah, known for her often direct disposition, readily appreciated a good joke, the company of friends, good food and a “good fight”. The family often lamented the associates of Macy’s and Dillard’s. If Sarah had to return an item, Sarah was always on the winning end. Sarah Jemison departed this life on January14, 2025. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted sons, Kenneth Lance Jemison (Vera); Joe James Jemison, Jr.; brother, Wayne Eric McCoy of Bessemer, Alabama; sister, Arrie Williams of Chicago, Illinois; brother in-law, Larry Jemison, Sr. (Elizabeth), sister in-law, Francis Walker of Hawthorne, California; grandchildren, LaTasha Johnson, Ryan Jemison of Washington, D.C., Amber Fair of Warner Robbins, GA, Adrienne Jemison; four great grandchildren, Riley, Makayla, Taylor, Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews and family friends. Rest well Sarah.
