Mr. Rommie Bell Blackmon

Rommie B. Blackmon, a.k.a. baby bruh, was born to the late Richard Blackmon Sr. and Macy B. Blackmon on April 20, 1948, in Tuskegee, AL. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Blackmon Sr., mother, Macy B. Blackmon, sisters: Alma Elizabeth Blackmon, and Bernice Jackson. He was survived by his son, Elon Blackmon (Donna); daughter, Ithream Blackmon, Indianapolis, IN; granddaughters: Lauryn and Laila Blackmon; siblings: Richard Blackmon, Jr. (Vashti) Atlanta, GA; his fraternal twin brother Peter Joshua (a.k.a. Pete Blackmon), Indianapolis, IN; his aunts: Katie Frances Walker and Ruth McIntosh; nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, and a host of cousins and friends. Rommie began his walk with Christ at an early age. He and his family were members of The Church of the Living God, the Pillar, and the Ground of the Truth which He Purchased with His Own Blood. He was a spiritual man that had a personal relationship with God. In 1963, Rommie and his family relocated to Indianapolis, IN where he graduated from Shortridge High School. After graduating, he joined the armed forces. He proudly served in the Army for two years. He attended IUPUI and majored in Drafting. In 1972, he married and from that union two children were born. He was a committed and dedicated employee of General Motors (GM) for over 20 years. After retiring from GM, he moved to Atlanta, GA. Rommie was a man of many talents. He enjoyed playing the steel guitar, repairing, and driving fast cars and remodeling his homes. Late in life, he self-published his first book, Hey, What’s Da Haps? He was the glue that kept his family together. He was there for family, whether it was a call or check-in visit. You could always count on him to know family history and eager to share. He loved spending time with his family.
