Mary Ann Thompson

Mary Ann Thompson was born April 13, 1960, in Monroe, Ga to the late Shirley Jean Wilkerson and Willie Lewis Harris Sr. of Monroe, Ga. Growing up in rural Georgia created a lot of fond memories for her, Mary always talked about her grandmother's delicious soul food dinners as a young child and her times just sitting out on the porch with her grandfather on a hot summer day. In her early years, Mary dedicated her life to God at a very young age, she attended Good Hope Babtist Church in Monroe, Ga. Later in life she moved to Atlanta, Ga and became a member of the Greater Liberty Hill Babtist Church. However, in her later years she found a true church home and became a member of The Lucas Temple True Church of God in Christ, where she served on the usher board for several years. Mary moved to Atlanta during her teenage years with her mother and her younger brother Jeffrey. While growing up her and her little brother always had a tight bond. Mary attended Roosevelt High school and graduated in 1980, after receiving her high school diploma she went on to Atlanta Area Technical College and received a cosmetology degree in 1982. During the late 80’s Mary stumbled across an old friend from Monroe, Ga by the name of Booker Thompson, the two began dating and were later married in 1989. From this union Mary was blessed with her most prized possession, her one and only child “Dominique” in 1991. As a mother, she was a true nurturer, there is nothing she would not do for her son. Mary found her passion in the education field, she spent several years as a teacher's aide at the Head Start program for the YMCA. From there, she went on to work for Clayton County Schools system as a special education paraprofessional. Mary loved working with children no matter their disability. During her later years she spent a lot of time with her mother, the two were like twins. Everywhere her mother went she went, they were truly inseparable. In addition to mother and daughter they were best friends, a bond that could never be broken.
