A Woman of Passion and Love She is a woman of passion and love Granny is a word we use all the time, To some it is just a word of relation or placement For me, it has meaning When I think of granny, I think of a woman who could cure The world’s coldness with one kiss She is a woman of passion and love When others see Granny, they see her immediate beauty Don’t get me wrong, I see it too, but the beauty I see is Comprised of her faith, resilience, and a Christlike love. She is a woman of passion and love. Granny is wisdom; Granny overlooks faults, encourages dreams, and praises Every success. She is a woman of passion and love She is everything near and dear She comforts every emotion She makes everything seem more than alright. Granny is the woman we look to for passion and love. -Milan Serenity Browning John 15:12 “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” Obituary Mary Jane Reid Smith was born on January 28, 1951, in Conyers, Georgia, to Johnnie Lee and Maggie Mae Reid. Mary was the seventh of ten children. She was considered a smart, quiet child who did not mind speaking her mind. A trait she demonstrated throughout her life. Mary joined White’s Chapel United Methodist Church at an early age where she sang in the Junior and Seniors choirs. Later in life, she joined Loves and Hugs Christian Tabernacle, where she served on the Mother’s Board. When Mary went to church if she was not in the choir, she enjoyed singing right along with them. Every day she read her Bible and lived by the word of God. She attended and graduated from J.P. Carr High School. She married Oscar James Smith in 1970 and began working at Lithonia Lighting, from which she retired in 1998. Mary loved helping her community and those around her; so much so that she attended nursing school and worked in healthcare until her health later declined. Mary was loyal and loved her immediate and extended family. She looked forward to family events, grandchildren’s birthday parties, and graduations. No matter her health, she did not miss her children’s or grandchildren’s special events. She was proud of her children and grandchildren; she constantly doted on them. Mary was famously known for her sweet potato custard. Every major holiday, the family requested sweet potato custard and she always delivered. Mary also enjoyed spending time with her great grandpets. If she was not out and about with her sisters, she could be found at home watching TV with her grand-kitty, Otis Gray Smith. Mary reached eternal peace on December 25, 2023. She was proceeded in death by son, Tonoa L. Smith; daughter, Shea L. Smith; grandchildren, Jasmine Smith and Paris-James Smith; parents, Johnnie L. and Maggie Mae Reid; brothers, Johnnie Jr., Michael and Ronnie Reid; sisters, Mertice Chapman, Maggie Tuggle, and Ginger Scales. Mary leaves to cherish her memory: husband, Oscar James Smith; sons, Fitzgerald D. (Carolyn) Reid and James D. (Ruby) Smith; daughter, Chacana L. Smith; grandchildren, Jessica Smith, Rhyan Reid, Dominque Smith, Jace Smith, Milan Smith, Reagan Reid, Chardonay Smith, and JonAshton Reid; brother, James Reid; sisters, Annie Sheppard and Robins Sanders (Gerald); and a host of nieces and nephews Homegoing Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024, 1 p.m. at Love & Hugs Christian Tabernacle 1701 Klondike Road SW, Conyers, GA 30094.
