Obituary. LINDA MAY BROWN NOVEMBER 1, 1919 ——- APRIL 26, 2020 Ms. Brown Passed away at Magnolia Assisted living home Loganville, Georgia, Sunday April 26 at the age of 100, from natural causes. She was the daughter of Mabel Louise and Solomon Augusta Browne. Fitzroy Allen, her son in-law, became her primary caregiver after her daughter Lorna’s death In November 2010 She is survived by: Fitzroy Allen; (BROWN’S nephews and nieces) Douglas; Al; Philip; Lorna; Sharon; Beverly; and Vinell (ANDERSON’S niece’s/ nephew’s): Shirlan; Sharmaine; Donovan; Lenox; Norman; and a number of Grand and Great,Great Grand Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by: Glen Browne; her daughter; Lorna ; niece, Ives Brown-Grant; BROTHER’S: Noel Constantine; Harper Earl; Glenford Alexander and. SISTER: Winifred Adassa (Browne) Born in Saint-Ann; JA, evidence of success became a rite of passage for many. Linda, like so many others, migrated to the United States for a host of reasons. For her, preparation, family, the help of friends, her church, and job opportunities all contributed to her “Coming to America” story. She began her career at Kingston Public Hospital in 1942 and successfully completed the “Victoria Jubilee” Nurse Training program in 1949. After graduation, for six months, Linda went to-work at Morant Bay Hospital and then left to work for Port Maria Hospital until 1954. There she trained to be a midwife and a Small-Pox nurse. She returned to KPH before retiring in 1959. She was registered #86 in the Jamaican Nursing Council in 1951. Linda migrated to the US and continued nursing. She secured a position at Beekman Downtown Hospital in NYC. Due to a pervasive racial predisposition within the hospital, she left and returned to Jamaica. Six months later, she returned to NY and found work doing private duty nursing. During this period she became a member of “Wake Eden Community Baptist Church” in the Bronx, NY. The years past and after a number of visits to the Atlanta GA area she decided to relocate there. Settled in Atlanta, in 2007, she found a new church home joining “The Salem Baptist Church NE” in Atlanta. In 2017 Salem gave her the designation as one of their “Super Senior’s”. She was physically very active and loved to walk.In her senior living she enjoyed bingo, working crossword puzzles, cooking and gardening. She even tried painting, which she enjoyed. Being a matriarch within the family, she relished in that light and was never shy when it came to giving her opinions, instruction, direction or advise. In Our Hearts We thought of you today. But that Is nothing new. We thought about you yesterday. And days before that too. We think of you In silence. We often speak your name Now all we have are memories. And your picture in a frame.
