Latravis Powell

Latravis Delfonte Powell transitioned from his earthly home to his heavenly one on October 21, 2023 surrounded by his friends and family. Early Life Latravis was born on January 13, 1975. In Cairo, Georgia , to Ruby and Bobby Powell. . Travis was raised in Columbus, Georgia where he grew up in The Heights on Doyal Avenue. Travis accepted the lord and was baptized at Canaan Missionary Baptist Church in Columbus, Georgia. He was a member of Christ the King in Dacula, Georgia . The Athlete, the Scholar, The Man LaTravis excelled as an athlete from an early age. Travis played Pop warner League football for the Edgewood Red Devils. He graduated from Shaw High school in 1993 where was stellar athlete in football and track. His athleticism earned him a full scholarship at Western Kentucky University where he played fullback a from 1994-1997. Latravis is ranked #10 in rushing touchdowns for the university. Coach Jack Harbough stated Travis was a true leader and made his teammates better”. On April 28, 1995 he was initiated into the Gamma Theta chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, along with Antwan Floyd. Travis earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration. After graduation Travis became employed at Progressive Insurance Company in 1999. His leadership style showed kindness, and empathy and he supported each his colleagues with unwavering motivation and encouragement to move forward with their careers. The Knight in Shining Armor Travis was a “ A knight in shining armor “ always ready to be a gentleman and to help anyone in need. He was able to fix almost anything …, Ceiling fans, garage doors, sinks , you name it; He would consult you-tube and execute. His sense of humor and self- awareness made him easy to be around. He could be level-headed and convicted his beliefs at the same time. His co-worker respected his honesty and his motivation to help move careers forward . His humble spirit guided him while he battled his illness and was grateful for the care he received . His legacy Latravis was preceded in death by his parents Ruby & Bobby Powell , maternal grandparents Jessie Mae and MC Gordon . He leaves behind to cherish his memory his precious children Talia Simone, Zion Alexander , Sasha Morgan and their mother Valerie Hadnot Powell. His sisters G. Felicia McCall of Lithia Springs, GA and W. Faye Powell of Thomasville, GA.. His earthly presence will be missed by his nieces Breanna Chisholm , Kyndall McCall , Kaliah McCall, Kelcee Dowdell, Nadia Magee and his nephew Kennedy Blackmon; Great Neice and nephew Kinsley Burress, and Kace Dunn . Goddaughters Aleigha Dowdell, Trust Phanord . He also wants to acknowledge his Aunt Lois Hurt. Travis will be missed by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
