Mrs. Inetta E. Alexander

Inetta Alexander transitioned from this life on July 22, 2026. She was born Inetta Elise Cheney on March 1, 1963, at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, to Frederick Cheney and Leila Cheney. Inetta was the youngest of three siblings, Fred Renard Cheney (b. 1955) and Cheryl Antoinette (Cheney) Williams (b. 1958). From an early age, Inetta loved learning and was a good student. She excelled in academics and had dreams of becoming a teacher, and later a lawyer. Inetta attended St. Peter AME Church in Atlanta, Georgia, with her family. Inetta was active in her school and community, and she graduated from North Fulton High School in 1981; afterwards, she attended Mercer University, and graduated in 1985, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, minoring in Communications. In 1985, Inetta met O’Neal Alexander, through a mutual friend, and they courted for a year and a half. They married on March 19, 1986, in Atlanta, Georgia; afterwards, O’Neal and Inetta lived on Eglin Air Force base outside of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, where she taught General Education Development (GED) classes at Okaloosa Walton Community College for students who did not complete high school. Inetta attended Troy State University and graduated with her Master of Public Administration in 1987. In 1990, O’Neal received his honorable discharge from the Air Force, and they moved back to Atlanta. Ine/a taught General EducaEon Development (GED) at Dekalb Technical College. The couple eventually had two children together. AMer praying, the Lord led them to homeschool their son and daughter. Inetta was active in her church and community. She was the director of Scholarship Ministry at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, under Bishop Eddie L. Long, and was also a deacon’s wife. Later, the Lord led the Alexanders to join New Mercies Christian Church, where they were instrumental in assisting Pastor Jesse Curney, III, with founding the ministry. In addition to serving as a deacon’s wife, Inetta also mentored young ladies in the church. She also advocated bringing the AWANA youth Bible study program to New Mercies. After relocating to Murfreesboro, Tennessee in 2015 for O’Neal’s job, the Alexander family joined First Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor James M. McCarroll, Jr. where she held the position of Community Service Director. She also tutored children in her community. Ine/a was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Cheney and Leila Cheney Pe/way, and brother Fred R. Cheney. She leaves behind to cherish her memory: her husband, O’Neal; son Jordan (daughter-inlove Bri/any); daughter Tiffani; sister Cheryl Williams; nieces and nephews: Tameka Williams, Torrell Stovall, Reneka Cheney, Akeida Cheney, Fredrick Cheney; and a host of relaEves and friends Mrs. Inetta Elise Alexander, 63 of Murfreesboro, TN passed on Wednesday, July 22,2026.
