**Obituary for Georgina Francois Usher** We gather to joyfully celebrate the life, faith, and homegoing of Deaconess Georgina F. Usher who peacefully stepped into glory on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at the age of 68. While we will miss her deeply, we rejoice in knowing that she is now resting safely in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. “Gina”, as she was affectionately known, was born February 22, 1958, in Evanston, Illinois to her parents, Archie and Eloise Thompson. She successfully attended and completed her education through the Chicago school system. After which, she matriculated and graduated from the Chicago State University with a degree in Nursing. She was soon recruited by Eastside Medical Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. There she passionately served in the Pediatric department. While at Eastside Medical, she served in several roles over her 33 years of employment. On July 23, 2005, she married her beloved husband and partner in life and faith, Deacon Eddie Lee Usher and together they cultivated a home rooted in hospitality, laughter, love, and service. Gina was an avid sports fan, especially of football. Her favorite teams were the Chicago Bears and the Atlanta Falcons (as long as Atlanta wasn’t playing against Chicago, that is). She also loved to travel to various locations and enjoyed cruises, and more. Gina always enjoyed living life as fully as she could. As a dedicated member and Deaconess at The Greater Piney Grove Baptist Church since January 1994 under the leadership of Dr. William E. Flippin, Sr., Gina’s life was an ongoing song of praise and service. She was a committed member of her Tribal Ministry (Gad) and the Global Evangelism Ministry. Her passion was personal evangelism. Gina was bold. She wanted to share The Gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone. She did not just occupy a title; she lived out her calling every day. Whether she was preparing back packs, meals, encouraging others, or evangelising, her joy was infectious and her love was unconditional. She embodied the Scripture of Psalm 100:2: "Serve the Lord with gladness." Her family and friends will forever remember her as a fountain of wisdom, a hospitality, and a source of constant encouragement. Her life proved that a life built on Christ is one of abundance, impact, and lasting joy. She has joined her loved ones who went before her, including her mother: Eloise Thompson; father: Archie Thompson; her siblings: Aubrey “Buster” Thompson and Pamela Thompson. Her vibrant spirit lives on through her family, her siblings: Mary Diane Thompson (Chicago, IL), Francheska Thompson-Kariem (Virginia Beach, VA), Danny Thompson (Charleston, MO), and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, greatnieces/nephews, and the countless lives she touched in her church and community. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, July 29th, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, at The Greater Piney Grove Baptist Church 1879 Glenwood Ave. SE Atlanta, GA 30316.
