David Lee Jones, Sr.

THE ENTRANCE: On June 4, 1928, one of God’s most precious gifts David Lee Jones, was born to Henry Jones, Sr. and Emily Witherspoon Jones, in Lamont, FL. THE MAN: In today’s society, David would not be considered an educated man. But anyone who had the privilege of engaging in a conversation with him, would quickly conclude that he was a very wise and resourceful man. With only a fifth grade education he learned how to read simple text, to sign his name, and do arithmetic. He was a scholar at taking measurements and counting his money! David lived life as a strong, proud man; while simultaneously, he was also a humble man. He was highly respected and revered by those who knew him, because he exemplified integrity, morals, and ethics; his word was his bond. He was a phenomenal provider and protector. He enjoyed traveling, gardening and landscaping (he may have been the only person in Ft Pierce to trim the hedges and trellis with a machete)! David loved collecting electrical junk (just like Fred Sanford), so that he could recycle the scrap metal and copper wire to sell. This man was quite the comedian, he was known for cracking a joke when you least expected it! THE PROFESSIONAL: By day, David had an extraordinary tenure at The Grumman Corporation, a prominent American aircraft manufacturer. After his work day at Grumman was when he would fully utilize his God-given gift as a master carpenter! He was well known in Fort Pierce, FL., and the surrounding towns as Mr. Jones, the cabinet man! If you could conceive it, David could build it! He took great pride in his craftsmanship, ensuring it was of the highest quality. THE SERVANT: Deacon David Lee Jones, Sr., was a believer in The Most High God; he had strong convictions in the power of prayer. He served as a deacon and the treasurer at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Ft. Pierce, FL., for many years. He used his beautiful baritone voice to praise God as a worship leader and a quartet singer. Upon moving to Decatur, GA., he became a member of Newbirth Missionary Baptist Church THE DEPARTURE: David was very impactful in the lives of many. It gave him great joy to share his love for God, his wisdom, his craft, and his humor. The Lord called David home on May 25, 2025. He leaves to cherish his life and legacy his loving, feisty wife of 74 years, Cora Lee Jones, two sons Leroy Jones and David Jones, Jr.; three daughters Zell Walker (Ed), Jeanette Spencer (Sylvester), and Taunya Reynolds. Two siblings Cleotha Jones Pugh and Ozell Jones (Carrie). Ten grand children, Ykisha Walker, Mundrikas Kelly, Keon Jones, Arkeba Pitts, Corwin Jones, Nakia Fair, Bernard Coxton, Jr., Quinton Jones, Jaslyn Coxton, and Immanuel Reynolds. Ten great grand children. A host of extended family members and his NewBirth Missionary Baptist Church Family. David was proceeded in death by his siblings Mary Floyd, Ethel Dixon, Pearlie Mae Curry, Samuel Jones and Henry Jones Jr.
