Charles Franklin Brown

Charles Franklin Brown of Lithonia GA entered into eternal rest on August 25, 2026, at Pruitthealth-Laurel Park in Stockbridge, GA. He was born on September 28, 1945, in Charlotte, North Carolina, to the late Willie Claude Brown, Sr. and the late Ellen Mae Turner Brown. Charles was raised in Charlotte and attended Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. He graduated from West Charlotte High School on May 15, 1963. Following high school, Charles attended North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University in Greensboro, North Carolina, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Business in June 1968. After graduating from college, he was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served for two years in South Korea. Charles began his professional career with Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, accepting a position as a Property Underwriter in the suburban Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, area. He remained with Liberty Mutual for 27 years. In January 1977, he was transferred to the Liberty Mutual branch in Atlanta, Georgia, where he continued his career until his retirement in 1997. On June 15, 1995, Charles was recognized for 25 years of service with Liberty Mutual, where he worked in MLS Property Underwriting. Following his retirement from Liberty Mutual, Charles decided to pursue entrepreneurship and established his own Allstate Insurance Agency. He operated the Charles Brown Allstate Agency until 2010, when he closed the agency and officially retired. Charles was passionate about his family, community, and alma mater. He enjoyed participating in the North Carolina A&T State University Alumni Association, the Brown-Hood Family Reunion, and his neighborhood associations. He was also a proud member of the West Charlotte High School National Alumni Association. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Atlanta Braves, the Atlanta Falcons and the Atlanta Hawks. Charles was a devoted man of faith. He joined Kelley Chapel United Methodist Church in Decatur, Georgia, on December 3, 1989, and remained an active and faithful member until his passing. He loved participating in church activities, singing in the choir, and serving with the United Methodist Men. In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his two brothers, Willie Claude Brown, Jr. and Erwin Brown, Sr., both of Charlotte, NC. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 52 years, Bertha Bennett Brown of Lithonia, GA; his daughter, Charlotte Ann Brown of Lithonia, GA; his sisters-in-law, Callie L. James of San Diego, CA, and Margaret Scales Brown of Charlotte, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends. Charles will be remembered for his dedication to his family, his commitment to his community, his faith, and the many lives he touched throughout his journey. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved and knew him. The Celebration of Life service for Charles Franklin Brown will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at 11:00 AM.
