Mrs. Billy Jean Cardwell

Billie Jean Cardwell was born on August 29, 1936 to the late Walter Adams and Pauline Saunders of Freeman West Virginia. She was a graduate of Bluestone High School of Bramwell West Virginia. Billie Jean married the late Samuel Elwood Cardwell in 1956. They moved to Yonkers, New York in 1957 and from this union there are six children. Preceding her in death is her husband Samuel E. Cardwell, her mother and father Walter and Pauline, Brother Robert Orey Jr. and Sister Virginia Cansler. Left to mourn are her six children: three sons Samuel Eric (Cecelia) Cardwell of Lithonia, GA, Mark and Robert Cardwell of Stone Mountain, GA and in addition Kevin Delaney Cardwell of Covington, GA. Three daughters Jacqueline (John-deceased) Carpenter of Forest City, NC, Lynn (Anthony) Bouie of Lawrenceville, GA and Kristin (Mario) Jeffery of Hampton, GA. Three brothers Conrad (Deborah) Orey of Yonkers, NY, Stephen (Rita) Orey of Bramwell, WV, and David (Evelyn) Orey of New London, CT. Billie Jean left behind 27 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also one Godson Eric Royster and many friends and neighbors. While living in New York she joined the Community Memorial Baptist Church in Yonkers, New York. She was an Eastern Star and the Daughters of the Nile in New York. Billie Jean worked many years in the Yonkers school system. Later she taught daycare and retired as director of the Infant-Parent Center in Yonkers, NY where she taught parenting skills. She continued to take care of children after moving to Stone Mountain, Georgia in 1997. She was a mom and grandma to countless others who always had an open heart and door to all. Special people in her life were Brenda Cardwell, Tracey Dimmie, Cheryl Edwards, LaTosha Scott and Theresa Humphries. They looked to her as a second mom and she loved them as her own. Billie Jean loved to travel to North Carolina to spend time with John and Winnie Carpenter and enjoyed her time with Ida Bouie and Jack Ellis in Georgia. Funeral Saturday, September 23, 2017 1pm in our Scottdale Chapel, 351 N. Clarendon Ave., Scottdale, GA. Burial at Kennedy Memorial Gardens. Visitation Saturday 12noon-1pm in our Scottdale chapel.
