Bevely Mack Hood

Ms. Beverly Mack-Hood of Lawrenceville, Georgia departed this life peacefully on Friday, May 27, 2016. Beverly was born to the union of the late Benjamin H. Mack, Sr. and Mary Francis Mack (still with us), on July 4, 1949 in Doraville, Georgia, DeKalb County. She was the second born of four children and exhibited her unlimited capacity for caring for others at an early age. Beverly received her primary education and partial High School education in the DeKalb County School System (Lynwood Park), completing her education by attending night school at Howard High School (in Fulton County). At an early age, Beverly accepted Christ as her Personal Savior and joined the membership of the Greater Mt. Carmel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Doraville, Georgia. For a number of years Beverly was very active in the church where she served faithfully and untiringly in a several capacities, including: the E. F. Robinson Choir, Combined Mass Choir, and Usher Board. Beverly was united into holy matrimony with Mr. James Howard Hood, Jr., and this loving union was blessed with one child (James Howard Hood, III). As a dedicated mother and daughter; Beverly cared, loved, and lived for her family, providing help and support during their times of tribulations and ensuring that they never wanted for anything. Beverly worked at Grady Memorial Hospital, Wesley Wood Nursing Home, and retired from the United States Post Office. She was very active in the Atlanta District US Postal Choir (aka, The Body of Christ Choir), where she found lifetime friendship with members of the choir. While singing with the Atlanta District US Postal Choir, Beverly was able to travel to Europe. Beverly’s willingness to care and love, gave her strength to continue to care for her aging mother, her son, and loving brother while suffering and enduring through her own personal illness. While dealing with substantial responsibilities concerning her immediate family and extended family affairs; Beverly never gave up, never asked for help, and never complained. Beverly was preceded in death by her father Benjamin H. Mack, Sr., and bothers Benjamin H. Mack, Jr., and Eric C. Mack. Left to celebrate her life are her loving mother, Mary Francis Mack; her son, James Howard Hood III; her brother, Clinton Avon Mack, Sr., Marshall Carter, and Ervin Carter; her sisters Patricia Carter, and Doris Jean Bray; sister-in-law, June Mack; and Godsons Tavares Roach, and Clinton Avon Mack, Jr. Also, members of the following families: Mack, Atkinson, Peeples, Barker, Jett, Gholston, and Warbington; a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends. A very warm and heartfelt gratefulness to her cousins Angela Peeples, Delphine Sharpe, and Arleen Peeples; along with her nieces Norma “Diamond” Jones and Kristie Mack. Kindness and love until the end from her friends: Chris Zackery, Richard Smith, and Larry Strickland.
