THE LIFE & LECACY OF Arthur V. Sherwood Arthur V. Sherwood was born on September 8, 1950, in the Riverside District of St. Catherine, Jamaica, to Ivy Woodburn and his father. The youngest of five brothers. Arthur proudly held the rode of the baby of the family. He was raised along side his brothers Rennard, Ken, Gilroy, and Hector in a close-knit household shaped by the guidance of his grandmother, whose discipline and high expectations instilled strong values of responsibility, pride and hard work. Though resources was modest, Arthur's upbringing was rich in love, structure, and shared purpose. Arthur attended Hampshire Primary School before continuing on to trade school, where he discovered his lifelong passion for mechanic. Following the passing of his mother at the age of 13, he moved to Kingston to live with his aunt, where he continued his education and professional training. He went on to work as a mechanic with General Motors in Jamaica, developing a reputation for precision, discipline. and excellence. During this period, Arthur also purchased a home in Duhaney Park, reflecting his independence and determination from an early age. In 1979, Arthur migrated to the United Stated, settling in New York City in pursuit of greater opportunity. He worked at automobile shops throughout Brooklyn and Queens, where his skill and work ethic quickly distinguished him. Known for his meticulous nature and spotless workspaces. Arthur believed that quality workmanship reflected personal integrity. He was deeply generous, often repairing vehicles for those who could not afford to pay, believing that helping others was just as important as building a business. In 1988, Arthur fulfilled a lifelong dream by opening AVS Auto Repair in Jamaica, Queens, New York. The business earned widespread respect and loyalty from community members including teachers. police officers, and longtime neighborhood residents. Arthur built not only a successful shop but also place of trust, membership, and pride. His love for cars extended beyond his work, as he enjoyed long road trios across the United States and Canada, often driving great distances simply for the joy of the journey. Later in life, Arthur relocated to Stone Mountain, Georgia, where he continued his entrepreneurial journey by opening Reliable Auto Repairs in Decatur. He ran the business with pride and dedication until the year before his passing.. Arthur leaves behind his wife (Verna), six children(Arthurene, Shah, Arthur Jr, Sean, Arthena, and Angelique), eight grandchildren, and two surviving brothers(Hector and Gilroy), He will be remembered as a devoted family man, a skilled mechanic, a proud entrepreneur, and a man whose generosity, integrity, and strong work ethic left a lasting legacy.
