Anthony Demetrie Mapp

Born on September 26, 1968, was unexpectedly sent to his eternal home on June 20, 2025. He was the beloved son of Wilson and Jean Mapp. Anthony was known as a loving, protective person who had the natural ability to make people laugh. His sense of humor was a valuable gift that brightened the day and made life even more enjoyable. His compassion for his family and friends was evident in every interaction. He spent his childhood growing up in the Gresham Park community, where he enjoyed playing childhood games with his brothers, sister, cousins, and neighborhood friends. He enjoyed participating in various neighborhood activities including playing baseball at Gresham Park. After attending Walker High School and graduating from the Dekalb County School system, Anthony made the decision to join the U. S. Navy. Anthony D. Mapp was a proud U.S. Navy veteran serving from 1988-1992 attaining the rank of Petty Officer Third Class (PO3). During his time in the U. S. Navy, he was stationed on the USS Nicholson (DD-982) formerly located on the Charleston, South Carolina, naval base. His duties included entry level NCOs, leading small teams, and performing specialized technical tasks. He received the following awards: Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (Second Award); Humanitarian Service Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Special Operations Service Ribbon; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Good Conduct Award (First Award) and a Navy Letter of Commendation. Anthony valued his service in the U.S. Navy. After Anthony’s four years in the U.S. Navy, he worked with a few different companies until he found his perfect fit, the Dekalb County Watershed Management where he worked for 25 years as a Supply Specialist. Anthony D. Mapp married Michelle Haynes in 1999, and the union departed in 2005. Anthony D. Mapp is survived by his loving family, including: his parents, Wilson and Jean Mapp; one sister, Stephanie Mapp-Williams Munnerlyn (Clay Munnerlyn); three brothers, Dontrell Mapp (Tasha Mapp), Wilson Mapp, and Jermaine Mapp (Rometra Mapp); nephews, Cameron A. Williams (Kacie Williams), Dontrell Mapp, Jr., and Dallas Mapp; nieces, Brooklynn and Peyton Mapp; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, step-nieces and step-nephews, and friends. Anthony D. Mapp, affectionately known as “Duck”, “Ant”, “Tony”, and “Mapp” was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him . Services entrusted to Gregory B.
