Tony Hall was born in Atlanta, Georgia on June 28, 1957 at Grady Memorial Hospital as the eldest child to Jessie Marie Hall and Willie Bernard Nalls. He was raised by his paternal grandmother Mattie Mae Nalls-Jefferson and his step-grandfather Jessie Jefferson Jr. in East Atlanta. Tony was a skilled athlete in football, wrestling and volleyball. At a young age, he was always involved in the church, choir and community. Tony was a proud member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), State Championship Choir, Debate Team and the 4-H Club while in high school. He was educated in the DeKalb County School System and graduated from Walker High School, class of 1975. Tony continued his education at Morehouse College in the fall of 1975, where he also played college football. Tony left Morehouse College and joined the U.S. Marine Corps in February 1977. Tony was medically discharged in 1978 due to an accidental poisoning that almost ended his life. In 1980, Tony started working for the Dekalb County Planning Department, where he worked for over 38 years. Tony became a proud father of a healthy boy, Ryan O’Neal Price in 1982 and again in 1985 to his daughter, Christina DeLeona Hall. He retired from the GIS Planning Department in 2018. Tony was a very active volunteer in DeKalb County and City of Decatur communities as a community coach for wrestling, baseball, softball and football. He joined New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in 2002. He was an active member and was a part of the Total Praise Choir and Nation of Jesus (NOJ) Men’s Ministry and volunteered in the Duplication Department and The King's Table. Tony was also a proud active member of Veterans for Christ, Inc. If you asked Tony what his greatest life accomplishments were, they were not his devout acts of service or his career. It was being a man of God, father to Ryan and Christina, and grandfather to Cameron and Brandon.
