NORMAN ‘BUTCHIE’ LAWSON AKA: ‘P.N.N.’ ‘STORMIN NORMAN’ HIS Story Born in Detroit, MI on Memorial Day, May 30, 1944, Norman Lawson was the second eldest son of Rudolph (Sr.) and Rebecca Lawson. The Lawson family included his loving parents as well as seven sons and six daughters. Norman, however, was preceded in death by his parents, brothers (Harold, Jerome and Rudolph Jr.), sisters (Juanita Hollins, Arlene Willis and Intisar Abdulghani). Being raised in Detroit, Norman had that MOTOWN pride and swagger. He was educated in the Detroit Public Schools but he was also streetwise and inventive. As a young man Norman begin his employment with the Ford Motor Car Company. Norman was an active member of the UAW. He fought for workers rights and educating younger workers of their rights and benefits. After many years Norman retired from Ford Motor Company and was able to enjoy the fruits of his labor. On May 17, 1967 Norman married Clara Campbell. He became an instant dad to their eldest daughter Zina. Soon the union was blessed with two more beautiful daughters, Kristina (Kris) Dorothea and Nicole Rebecca (Becky). Norman was a loving father, provider and counselor. He also played the role of sage advisor to his grandson and many nephews. Norman always mixed advice with humor to make it easier to accept. Later, Norman was joined in matrimony with Ruby Ford. This union increased his family outreach and support. Norman’s residence in Detroit came to an end in 2006. He and Ruby moved to the Atlanta area being drawn by there by the fact his daughters chose to make Georgia their home (and the thought of much less snow). But Detroit was home and never far from his mind. He made numerous trips to Detroit to show his sincere concerns for his wife and siblings. He also travelled to Indiana and Louisiana to show his deep concern for family members there. Norman had the desire to continue making these trips even though family and doctors advised against him travelling by car alone. On Wednesday, June 22, 2022, Norman having earlier received God’s saving grace and forgiveness, surrounded by family peacefully took his last journey ‘home’. Norman leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Ruby, daughters Zina (Major) Ziglar, Kristina (Julius) Ledbetter, Nicole (Roderick) Heard, their mother, Clara Campbell Lawson, stepdaughter Afrika Ford, sisters; Marilyn Stokes, Barbara (Ronald) Riddle, Sandra Lawson, Joyce Banks, brothers; Asmar Nuriddin, Louis (Christine) Lawson, Kevin Lawson, grandchildren; Alia Ford, Antorio Norman, Dabron, and Chrishaye Lawson, Shiymah, Sabrie and Sylah McCarrall, Julius Ledbetter, Jr, 7 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends. “Don’t cry because I died. SMILE BECAUSE I LIVED.” I’m free, thank God I’m free. No more chains holding me. My soul is resting, it’s a blessing. I thank God, I’m free.
