Nathaniel Bass
April 18, 1938 - September 28, 2021
Nathaniel Bass … affectionately know as “Dad”, “Pops”, “Pop Pop”, “Grandpa”, “Uncle Nate”, “Papa Do” and “Mister” & “Pa Pa” (Thank You, Vye and Mama Hazel!) …was born somewhere around Person County, North Carolina on April 18, 1938. He was the second son and third sibling born to parents, Rosa Williams and Theotha Bass. At a very young age he experienced the untimely death of his mother. He and his siblings were raised by their father and stepmother Beatrice Bass. Nathaniel grew up in New York, spending time in Queens and on Long Island. He did a short stint in the US Army, where he attended Airborne School and spent some time in Europe. After the military, he met and married Dorothy Kitchens in 1960. Out of that union came three blessings… Natalie, Matthew, and Daniel. Nate did not boast about many interests, but he loved his family and worked hard. He was extremely talented and gifted as a self taught carpenter and handyman. His signature look was to be covered from head to toe in saw dust or whatever the construction material happened to be. He worked construction, masonry and home-improvement…even passing those artistic skills on to his children. He also knew how to play hard. He loved to get dressed up once he “dusted off”and got “clean”. This “clean” characteristic was maintained throughout his lifetime. Looking sharp was definitely one thing he was fond of. His last years and days were spent surrounded by loving family and friends. Together they braved the challenges associated with dementia through love, inner strength and lots of laughter. Nathaniel experienced all the usual life events …marriage, births, deaths, divorce, and grandchildren …just to name a few. He was always happy to share that his family gave him reason to smile and be proud. He leaves, to rejoice and celebrate his life, many who love him… Sister: Nannie Mae Bass Children: Natalie (Bass) Hannans (Jeffrey), Matthew N. Bass (Sheila- Resting in Peace), Daniel C.
