Nadra S. Hannah

Nadra Shirley Hannah, after a recent illness, received her wings on September 3, 2022, at home in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Nadra was born to the late Hazel Hannah and the late Willie Frank Sutton. She dedicated her life to Christ at an early age and was faithful to His calling; and accepted all religions. Nadra served faithfully under Reverend Jan Taddeo of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Gwinnett, Lawrenceville, GA, where she embraced diverse and inclusive teachings. Nadra attended the New Jersey Public School System and graduated from Central High School, Newark, New Jersey. She continued her higher education attending Essex County College and Ramapo College of New Jersey where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Communication. Later, she obtained a Master’s degree in Social Work at the University of California at East Bay. Nadra enjoyed a career as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker working with AIDS patients, the elderly, and children in foster care. She served the community and mankind in this capacity for over ten years. Nadra enjoyed traveling not only the United States but also abroad, visiting such places as Ghana, Egypt, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Europe just to name a few. She especially loved the beach. Other beloved interests included studying ancestorial history, Egyptology, and all forms of religion. Nadra was a well-rounded person. She loved the arts, painting, sculpture, poetry, photography, and was an avid reader. She lived a full and blessed life with grace, courage, strength, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Nadra never met a stranger and would strike up a conversation with anyone. Nadra was married to William Whitner and to this union one child was born, the Honorable Tadia D. Whitner. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Tadia, son-in-law Brian A. Jackson, two grandchildren, Zander A. Kelly and Jaide L. Kelly, a sister, Maureen Sutton, Oviedo, Florida, a brother, Gregory Baker, Newark, New Jersey, an aunt, Pearl M. Smith, St. Petersburg, Florida, and a host of other family members and friends that she held dear to her heart.
