October 30, 1929 - October 2, 2021
Leslie Paige Copeland was born on October 30, 1929 to John and Eliza Copeland in Farmville, VA. Leslie was the baby of ten siblings, who have all preceded him in death. Leslie, was known to many as “Les” or “Grandpa”. He served our country with pride in the U.S. Army, and retired from Nabisco Cookie Company in 1994 after 34 years of dedicated service. He was preceded in death by his two daughters, Carolyn R. Nicholson and Brenda S. Lane, from his union to Hattie L. Copeland, and one grandson, Anthony Copeland. Leslie also fathered a son named Gary Watson. “Les” was a charismatic, fun loving, caring man that brought laughter and jokes to every party. He enjoyed his family, traveling and cutting up with the fellas on Godwin Avenue. “Les” lived a full rich life during his “dash”. For the last nine years, Leslie was cared for by his granddaughter Colette, Joseph and grandson Andre. It was special to witness the cycle of life, from Grandpa taking Andre for his haircuts, to in time, Andre giving grandpa haircuts. Special thanks to Joseph Hall for the extra daily care he provided. Depending on the day, he was called, “Joe”, “Daddy” or “The Man”. Colette was nicknamed, “She”. Les would proudly state his age and let you know that he was able to walk without the aid of a cane. He enjoyed his hats, dressing well, smelling good and providing for anyone that asked or needed. Leslie was proud to be a grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. Les leaves to cherish his memory, granddaughters; Colette Hall (Joseph) of Lawrenceville, GA, LaKeisha Nicholson-Williams (Arnett) of Thomasville, GA, grandsons; Roosevelt “Billy” Copeland of Jacksonville, FL and Michael Copeland (Ashley), Phillipsburg, NJ. Great-grandsons; Andre “Boo” Gilyard, of Lawrenceville, GA, Tonyqueis Smith Sr. (Stephanie) of Thomasville, GA, Great-granddaughters Chelsey and X’Zya Riggins of Thomasville, GA, and Anthony Copeland of Phillipsburg, NJ. Great-Great grandsons Ty’Lin, Colby, Tonyqueis Jr. and Tristian.
