Janie Green Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Janie Green was born on Monday, August 28, 1938 to Robert Cornelius Green and Viola Bynum Green . She was born at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. She was the youngest of three daughters. Janie grew up in Brooklyn, New York and graduated from Clair Barton High School. As a young adult Janie enjoyed spending time with her sisters all around New York. She studied nursing and worked as a LPN at Brookdale Hospital for over 25 years. At the tender age of 16, Janie married Robert Thompson, Sr., on April 3, 1954 in Brooklyn, New York. In September of that year, she welcomed her first son Robert Thompson, Jr., followed by her second son Gerald Edward Thompson in October of 1955. She enjoyed playing cards, spending time with family and traveling. Relatives and friends would call Janie “the life of the party” and she always wore a smile. Janie became a part of Eastern Star organization and enjoyed scatting with friends and family. Janie loved all kinds of music like jazz, bebop and R&B for over 30 years she lived in downtown Brooklyn and the majority of her life in New York. Everyone who knew her would refer to Janie as ‘“Toni” which was her known nickname. Janie had impeccable fashion sense and loved her mink coats, diamond jewelry, and designer bags. In her later years, Janie relocated to Lawrenceville, GA., to live with her youngest son Gerald. Jane is survived by her sons: Robert Thompson, Jr., and Gerald Edward Thompson, her six grandchildren, Taungela, Marlon, Maurice, Kaila, Gerald and Jewel Thompson. She is survived by her only living sister Ciola (Green) Fulton and countless nephews, nieces, cousins and several loved ones. Janie is preceded in death by her mother Viola Green, Father Robert Green and Sister Macelyn G. Farrington. Janie’s lively and angelic spirit will forever be missed.
