    Henry Atkinson

    February 12, 1948 - February 2, 2022

The Life Story of HENRY ATKINSON, JR. Henry Atkinson, Jr. was born on February 12, 1948, in Bishopville, South Carolina, to the late parents Elma Washington and Thomas J. Washington. Henry was the oldest of three sons. He attended Bishopville, South Carolina, school district. At sixteen, the family relocated to Englewood, New Jersey. Henry was known as "Junior" by his family and friends but was better known as "Poppy" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Henry accepted Christ in his life. He was a member of Englewood Church of God In Christ under the leadership of Elder Steve Schwartz in Englewood, New Jersey. Henry was a former Galilee Masonic member. Henry met the love of his life, Faye, in their childhood. He loved spending time with his "Dup." Henry and Faye joined in holy matrimony on February 14, 1968, and from that union, there was one son, Dionne H. Huggins was born. God blessed Henry and Faye with a beautiful, healthy little girl named Ieshia Atkinson. Henry was a man of multiple trades. He worked at Ford Plant, in Mahwah, NJ and received a degree as a mechanic technician. Henry was an owner-operator of his trucking company known as Atkinson & Son Trucking. Later, he worked as a handyman in a carpenter and later started his own landscaping business known as Atkinson Landscaping. Through the trades that he acquired, you can see the perfection and passion behind his work because he loved what he did. Henry was a leader and a great family man. Junior was all about his family. He enjoyed listening to old goodies, gospel music, dancing, and singing. His hobbies were cooking, fishing, racing cars, and working on them. Henry had a great conversation with his oldest grandson, DJ. He raises a lovely, bright, and beautiful granddaughter Trinitee. He couldn't get his great-grandson's names Jahari and Jasai correctly, so he gave them nicknames "Boy." He sang beautiful songs with Myale. He loved eating watermelon with his grandson, Dajon, and great-grandson, Jahari. He loved cooking for everyone, especially for Nyla because she would say, “umm Poppy, this food is good to my tummy.” If anyone knew anything about him, you knew he was always waiting for his winning numbers to come! He was a lucky man, and we were all blessed to have him as part of our lives! “Time to come home,” is what God whispered to Henry. He didn’t want him to suffer anymore he reached out his hand, so Henry’s spirit followed Him to the Kingdom door on February 02, 2022. Henry was a devoted and loving husband, son, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather (Poppy). He leaves to cherish his memories, wife Lula Faye Atkinson of Lawrenceville, GA, his two children Dionne Huggins (Sha'Von) of Lawrenceville, GA and Ieshia Atkinson of Englewood, NJ, one brother John White (Debbie) of Garfield, NJ, two brothers-in-law McKinley aka (Kenny) and Bobby Huggins of Jersey City, NJ, one sister-in-law Shirley White of Willingboro, NJ, one special daughter-in-love Wendy aka Jo-Jo of Dumont, NJ, thirteen grandchildren, “the light of his eyes” ten great-children. In addition, his warm and loving spirit will continue in the heart of a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In heaven, he preceded, one brother Lee White, Jr. aka (Poopie), one brother-in-law Richard Huggins, and one grandson Allen Robert McNeil. Service entrusted to Gregory B.
