Gordie Pugh Jr. was born on March 24th, 1933, in Bainbridge, GA, son of the late Gordie Pugh Sr. and Virgilene Clayton Pugh. He passed away June 8th, 2022. He was a graduate of Hutto High School in Bainbridge, GA and earned his bachelor's degree from Savannah State College in Savannah, GA, where he became a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Delta Eta Chapter. He served as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a Physical Education teacher at the Bangs Avenue School in Asbury Park, NJ from 1965 to 1993. He served as Secretary of the Asbury Park Education Association. He coached football, basketball, and golf. He became a member of The Prince Hall Masons at Mt. Pisgah Lodge in Asbury Park, NJ. He enjoyed playing golf and worked at the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, GA in the 1960s & 1970s. He worked for the Monmouth County Park System at their Shark River, Hominy Hill, and Howell Park golf courses in New Jersey. He was a member at Bethel A.M.E. Church in Asbury Park, NJ, Saint Philip A.M.E. Church in Decatur, GA, and frequent visitor of First Saint Paul A.M.E. Church in Lithonia, GA. He was predeceased by his sons Adolphus Bell and Dwight Pugh and his sisters Carrie Mae Smith and Ruby Pugh Bendross. He is survived by his wife Betty Rucker-Pugh. Two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth & June Pugh of Ellenwood, GA and Trent & Lisa Pugh of Ocean Grove, NJ.; Daughters-in-law: Delores Bell and Ruby Pugh Grandchildren: Rameses, Deanna, Faith, Charity, Dominique, Jasmine, Trent Jr, Elijah, Daneesha, and Lamont. Nieces: Dr. Barbara Williams Emerson, Sandra Pugh-Dela Santos and Nina Ann Dela Santos; Nephew: Anthony Pugh; Cousins: Renee Jackson-Venisee, Bart Jackson, Michael Moore, Jerome Moore and many others. A host of great-grandchildren, other relatives, and friends.
