Ms. Yvonne Mae Goolsby

Yvonne Mae Goolsby, 87, passed away peacefully on April 7th at 3:53 a.m., surrounded by her four children and grandson Myles, who remained lovingly by her bedside. Born in Sauratown, North Carolina, Yvonne’s life was a testament to resilience, creativity, and the unbreakable bonds of family. She is survived by her children: Gerald M. Shealey, Madonna S. Goldsby, Tonya S. Goolsby, and Rodney L. Shealey; her brother, Frank Goolsby; her nephew Brandon D. Goolsby, who was a son to her in every way that mattered; and her beloved in laws: Sister in-law Virginia Goolsby, daughter in-laws Alesia H. Shealey and Nicole Shealey, Son in-laws Eric Goldsby and Ronnie Higgs. She is also survived by seven grandchildren—Gerald T. Shealey, Myles M. Shealey, Taylor Goldsby, Jasmine Goldsby, Tavon Barnswell, Cole Shealey, and Chase Shealey—and four great grandchildren: Gerald T. Shealey, Jr., James E. Shealey, Ellis L. Ferguson, and Emery L. Ferguson and multiple nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and other beloved family members. Yvonne’s life began in the fields as a sharecropper’s daughter, but she always dreamed beyond the horizon she was born into. Through determination and faith, she built a life filled with accomplishments, purpose, and love. She valued family above all else—yet she defined family not only by DNA, but by the people she welcomed, supported, and held close throughout her life. A woman of many talents, Yvonne found joy in painting, crocheting, dancing, and playing Uno with her great grandchildren, who adored every moment spent with her. Her creativity, warmth, and laughter filled every room she entered. In honor of Yvonne’s generous spirit, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations please be made in her name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the American Kidney Fund, or the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
