Vernon Gay

Mr. Vernon Gay, son of the late Robert and Margaret Gay was born June 25, 1964 in Atlanta, Georgia. He attended Atlanta Public schools of Fulton County and graduated from West Fulton High School in 1982. He was affectionately known as “Lil Bro” & “Baby” by his siblings. Siblings: Stanley Arnold (Brother), Jamice (Sister-in-law); Larry Allen (Deceased Brother-in-law), Quien (Sister). Vernon enlisted in the United States of America Military shortly after graduating from high school. He was a Soldier of the US Army branch for eight years from February 1984 to April 1992. For most of those years, his Major Command station was overseas in Germany before transferring to the station in Fort Stewart, GA. In the US Army, Vernon was an Ammunition Specialist & a Bridge Crewmember Specialist. For all periods of service, he was a Decorated Soldier with a list of accomplishments. Just to name a few, he received the Army Service ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Army Label Button, Army Achievement Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Good Conduct Medal (2D Award), Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Commendation Medal & the Professional Development Ribbon. Vernon worked as a Security Officer for Securitas Security Services, USA since 2018. He was a very reliable dedicated worker for this company. With such high regards, he was requested by Varian Medical Systems to be the only security officer contracted out to them from Securitas USA. Vernon enjoyed working at Varian Medical Systems. He loved the close relationship he shared with his work family. He would often talk about them, how they blessed him with gifts and showed their appreciation for him daily. Vernon loved his family dearly. Since he was the youngest, it was expected of him to always keep a constant check-in with his siblings. But, if too much time passed without contact, a subtle persuasion from Quien would always prompt Stanley to act. They would track him down with a three-way phone call. After all, he was “Lil Bro” the “Baby”. He had a special place in his heart for his nieces, nephew, great nieces and great nephews. They were like the children he never had. Vernon was the master chef of the family. He enjoyed cooking so much, he became the Building Facilitator at the Art Institute of Atlanta Culinary School. Whenever the opportunity arose, he stepped into the kitchen to give advice to the students preparing their dishes. He loved to cook in the kitchen and throw down on the grill, call you up and tell you to come and get it. With any meal he prepared, you were never disappointed.
