“She was most happy when in the presence of her family and friends. She had a heart of gold and cared deeply for others.” On March 1, 2024, Valerie Mary Ninette Gill, left her earthly body and entered the gates of her eternal home. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Thomas Kronemberg, parents, Frederick and Henrietta Rodrigo, four brothers, Aubrey, Ronald, Carlyle, and Clement, one sister, Heather, and grandson, Clifton Odell Robinson, Jr.. She is survived by her current husband, Gerald Gill, sister, Christine, her children, Cherie (Odell), Humphrey (Jackie), Kurt (Janet), Kevin, Tira (Lester), Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, and a host of Nieces, Nephews and Cousins. The world became a better place on February 8, 1930 when Valerie was born. Valerie was born in Columbo, Sri Lanka. As an adult, she became a short-hand secretary prior to immigrating to the United States with her first husband, Thomas, and their five children. Upon her arrival to this new country, she took the most pride in raising her children. She was a woman of strong faith. Her hands were an extraordinary gift. With this gift, she was an excellent cook. She could sew, knit, crochet, and quilt. She took great pride in her ability to create. She was able to weave baskets and amazing wood carvings. She lived her life to give to others. She fed the less fortunate, delivered meals on wheels with her husband, and knitted sweaters and hats for newborn babies in the hospital. Whenever she could, she believed in giving to others. She lived a beautifully, blessed life. She traveled the world with her husband, Jerry. From her Homeland of Sri Lanka, to New York, to Hertford, North Carolina, which in her later years she enjoyed the most, she was able to experience life in many places. While in Hertford, NC, she loved the community she found in the Senior Center. She had many friends. She stayed active by walking, and participating in the Senior Games, where she brought home many medals. Her drive for life was untouchable. She was an avid collector of dolls, spoons, and stamps. She and her husband, Jerry, were well-loved by the Hertford Community and everyone knew them. As her health began to decline, she moved to Georgia, where she resided with her husband, Jerry, and son Kevin until her passing. Valerie loved her family, especially her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She shared her gifts with them. From cooking to crafting, she taught each one of them something they could carry with them for the rest of their lives. With very fond memories and recollections, she shared and talked with them often about her beautiful homeland, Sri Lanka. She and her husband, Jerry, took their grandchildren and great children to many different places and offered them wonderful experiences that they can cherish forever. Valerie leaves behind an amazing legacy that her family and friends can cherish for a lifetime!
