Mrs. Tommie Jean Barr

Tommie Jean Barr, 73, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, December 2, 2022, in Grayson, GA. Tommie was born March 6, 1949, to the late Adele and John Thomas Rivers. She spent her childhood in Florence, South Carolina before moving to Connecticut. She attended school in Stamford, CT, and graduated from Rippowam High school in 1967. She enjoyed playing sports in school and prided herself on sewing her clothes and dressing stylishly. Tommie, affectionally known as Bug, married her childhood sweetheart Henry (Bob) Barr in December 1967. Bug and Bob had a wonderful loving life together. They had two daughters, Kenya Barr Rountree and Natasha Barr Williams. Over the years Henry and Tommie moved from Stamford to Milford Ct to Orange Ct before settling in Grayson Georgia, where they remained for over 20 years. Tommie would often say “I miss my family, but I love Georgia” and she considered herself a Georgia peach. Tommie was a fun-loving lady who loved playing games, laughing, cooking, and sewing. She enjoyed giving parties and hosting large gatherings like pig roasts and fish fries. She loved Christmas, teasing and joking with everyone. She never met a stranger and talked to everyone she met. Tommie was a beautiful woman inside and out. She was a great cook. and was known especially for her sweet potato pies, cookie trays, and for her homemade cheesecake. Tommie took pride in decorating her home and always knew how to put things together just so. She enjoyed gardening & traveling with Henry. They would jump in the car and just go, ending up on a beach somewhere fishing off a pier & making new friends. Tommie loved the Lord and gospel music and would always say ‘thanks JC’. She never faced a challenge she would not accept and believed ‘If He commands me to do it, it must be within my power to do it’! Tommie was deeply loved and will be missed by many. She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband Henry, Her Daughters Kenya (Wattson) Rountree, and Natasha (Anthony) Williams, and Grandchildren Zion Williams, Bryce Williams, and Trinity Stevenson-Rountree. Her sisters Helen Holeyfield, Brenda (Leroy) Robinson, Sylvia Wilson, Claressa Mingo, Valerie Patterson, Catrell (Michael) Nero, Brandy L. Rivers, and brothers Guerry Rivers, and John Rivers. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, loved ones, and friends Tommie is predeceased by her parents Tom and Adele Rivers, brothers Alphonzo Ivory and John Rivers, and a sister Marilyn Cain. Celebration of Life Services for Mrs. Tommie Jean Barr will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 11:00 AM. These services will be recorded and streamed live.
