Terry Hankton

A Time to be Born Terry Hankton was born on June 9, 1950 in Strong, Arkansas to the late Jethro Hankton and Frances Lee Pennie. A Time to Laugh, Play, and Work Terry was educated in the public schools of Strong and Crossett, Arkansas where he excelled at basketball. He furthered his education at Arkansas Technical University in Russellville, where he continued his basketball career and still holds several school records. Following a stellar career at Tech, he was drafted in the American Basketball Association (ABA) by the Memphis Tams. His basketball accomplishments led to inductions into the Union County Hall of Fame and most recently, the inaugural Arkansas Tech Sports Hall of Fame. Following his stint in the ABA, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served 22 years, attaining the rank of Senior Master Sergeant (E-8). Upon retirement from the military, he settled in Atlanta, Georgia and pursued a career in Information Systems Technology. A Time to Love Terry was united in holy matrimony to Joyce Marie Alexander on November 22, 1974 in San Antonio, Texas. To this union, a son and a daughter were born. Prior to this union, he was the proud father of a daughter. A Time of Loss Terry is preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Charles McHenry and Leroy Bowman. A Time to Pass Terry was called to his heavenly home on Sunday, December 4, 2022 at 4:00 am at his home. A Time to Mourn He leaves to mourn his passing a devoted wife, Joyce Marie Hankton of Lawrenceville Ga; daughters – Terri (Omar) Clemons of Russellville AR and Kendra Hankton of Columbus OH; son – Terry (Felicia) Hankton II of San Antonio TX; sister – Joyce (Morris) Handy of Houston, TX; granddaughter, Shakayla (Brytton) Canady of Mesa AZ; grandsons – Hakim Gray and Ishmael Salahaldin of Kennesaw, GA and Tyson of San Antonio TX; great granddaughters Eden Grace and Zuri Rose of Mesa AZ; sister-in-laws - Mary Burse, Elizabeth Custard, and Lucile Cole of Selma AL; Jessie (Willie) Brown of Browns AL; Thelma Dudley of Lantana FL and Mary Watts of Buffalo NY; brother-in-laws – Jonathan (Mary) Alexander and Johnnie Cole of Selma AL, Phillip Alexander of San Marcos TX; and a host of very dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
