Solomon Shurney Jr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Brother Solomon Edward Shurney Solomon E. Shurney Jr. was born on January 7th, 1970 in Albany, Georgia. He was the third child of the late Solomon Shurney Sr. and the late Nellcenia Kerson. His two older sisters,Nina Calhoun and Sheila Akasike, preceded him in death also. He departed from this life on June 2, 2023 at the age of 53. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1988. Following graduation, he attended Auburn University in Alabama, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Operations Management in 1992. In addition, he was a proud member of the Sigma Delta chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. Later down the line, Solomon was employed at Suniva as a machine operator until he retired early due to health issues. He also joined Hopewell Baptist Church in 2001, and he faithfully served on the Men of Faith Usher Board for several years. Solomon will be remembered for his welcoming smile and gentle spirit. He was a devoted husband to wife Lucinda Burnett, and they have been happily wed since July of 1999. From this union, he became a great father to their daughter, Kristin Shurney. His loving memory will be further cherished by: his aunt Betty Rivers; uncles Karl Tyson and Robert Harris; nieces Courtney Calhoun and Kalaya Sumareh; stepson Martez (Quwanda) Burnett; step-granddaughter Destiny Burnett; mother-in-law Mary Burnett; father-in-law Sylvester (Vera) Watts; sisters-in-law Belinda (James) Daniels, Glendora Watts, Cassandra (Anthony) Panky, and Cassandra Riley; brother-in-law Tony Burnett; godsons Ramone Polite and Anfernee Alston; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and close friends. Solomon Shurney Jr. 53, of Lawrenceville, GA passed on Friday June 2, 2023. Celebration of life Services will be held on Friday June 9, at 11AM at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church.
