Mr. Silas Esau Sweatman

Silas Esau Sweatman, the son of the late Wells and Mazie Brown Sweatman, was born on December 19, 1943 in Holly Hill, South Carolina. Esau was very kind, generous and loving. He enjoyed life. If you knew Esau, then you know he spoke his mind. As a teenager he and his twin brother had a little job in town doing yard work for a woman named Mrs. Miller. One day Mrs. Niller was serving them lunch on the back porch. Esau being outspoken as he was, politely told Mrs. Miller, “The dogs eat on the porch.” She agreed and kindly invited them into the kitchen to eat. Mrs. Miller was so impressed with his outspokenness she told Esau’s mom about the incident. Esau ended segregation that day without a march. Esau was one who liked everything to be neat and very clean, especially his clothing and shoes. So much so that he taught his younger siblings, how to polish and shine their shoes. Upon leaving high school, he relocated to Boston, MA. There he started his working career. Later, he met and married Peggy Lando. Together they started a family with their first child Christopher (deceased), then Kristen (deceased) Nicole, and Lyron. He was a loving father who loved his children and worked hard to provide for their needs. At one point in Esau’s life, he studied the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses and learned the wonderful truths found in the Bible. He attended their meetings and conventions. Upon retirement Esau moved back to South Carolina. He enjoyed reconnecting with some of the neighbors and forming new friendships. If you visited him on a Sunday, you could counting on having dinner with him. He enjoyed cooking, entertaining his friends, and watching sports. He also enjoyed gardening and sharing his produce with the neighbors. Esau was predeceased by his daughter Kristen Sweatman, sisters Rosemary James, Vella Gilbert and Mazie Smith, brothers Wells Jr. and John Sweatman. Esau, is survived by his daughter Nicole Sweatman, son Lyron Sweatman, granddaughters Corryn and Elyse Thomas, sisters Cora, Minnie, Beatrice, Ruthie and Arlene Sweatman and his brothers Willie (Alberta), twin brother Paul, Adam (Ellen), and Curtis (Yvonne) Sweatman. Sister-in-law Louise Sweatman, three generations of nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of family and friends. Esau fell asleep in death on March 29, 2025. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
