Shirley Jones

Reflections We pay tribute and honor to the late Shirley Mae Jones. Shirley Mae Sewell was born on February 6, 1948, and was one of five children born to the late Rudolph and Ruby Sewell in Lexington, South Carolina. One month after her 73rd birthday, Shirley departed this life on Friday, March 19, 2021. Shirley was educated in Akron, Ohio, graduating in 1966 from Buchtel High School. She also graduated from Franklin University of Columbus, Ohio, with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Accounting in 1982. She continued her education graduating from the Keller Graduate School of Management in 2009 with a Masters Degree. In Shirley’s professional career, she was a trailblazer for women in technology, serving as a Manager of Information Systems at Boeing Aircraft for over 20 years from 1976 to 2000. In her subsequent career, Shirley worked for Avon Products for 14 years, taking on many roles and eventually becoming a Project Management Supervisor. From Boeing to Avon, Shirley’s motivating drive and determination not only brought out the best in her co-workers but also reaped an immeasurable amount of love and respect for her. Shirley Mae, dedicated her life to God through her acceptance of Jesus Christ as her savior and she served in many ministries at Suwanee Worship Center. As a mother of the church, her willingness to help and be a guiding voice of reason, Shirley will always be remembered in the hearts of her church family. Those who will cherish her memory include two daughters, Delina Ann Dubose and Danielle Tyhesia Johnson (Albert) of Georgia, three grandchildren (“her babies”), Taelor Brianna Griffie, Dakota Rose Johnson, and Savannah Lily Johnson, four siblings: Martin Luther Sewell (Joyce) of Georgia, Patricia Webb (Eddie) of Florida, Veeda Sewell of Ohio, and Rudolph Sewell Jr. (Shelia) of South Carolina, six nieces, two nephews, and the entire Sewell family. Cherished friends: Clay and Beth Feustel and family, Dorothy Yancey Reed and family, Correne Brown and a host of other friends. The family would like to thank Emory Saint Joseph Hospital’s doctors and staff in Atlanta, Georgia, for their outstanding care provided to Shirley and the entire family.
