Shelia Harris

On July 8, 1956, a radiant light entered this world as God blessed Paul Fears Grant and Christine Cooper Grant with their precious daughter, Shelia “Slim” Grant Harris. Born the fourth of seven children, Shelia was raised in a family rich in love and faith. She followed her parents and three siblings—Ernest Lee Cooper, Ruth Grant Thompson (Charles), and Calvin Grant—into God’s embrace, but her legacy of love continues to shine in the hearts of all who knew her. From an early age, Shelia’s vibrant spirit and unique gifts stood out. She attended Lithonia High School, where her energy and enthusiasm as a cheerleader inspired both the junior and varsity squads. Her natural artistic talent was evident, as her artwork was proudly displayed throughout her school years, admired by all who saw it. Her bright and beautiful soul shone even brighter when she was crowned Homecoming Queen in 1973-74, a testament to the joy and love she radiated to everyone around her. After graduating in 1974, Shelia entered the next chapter of her life, where her heart grew even fuller with the birth of her beloved children. At the age of 27, she welcomed her treasured son, Tio Trumaine Fallen, into the world, and later, her one and only baby girl, Tia Shametria Harris. Shelia's love for her children was the heartbeat of her life. She was a devoted and nurturing mother, always offering them unconditional support, encouragement, and guidance. Shelia's professional life was marked by dedication and excellence. She spent 39 years at Scientific Atlanta, where her strong work ethic and commitment to her role made her an invaluable part of the team. She later took her talents to Cisco Systems and Technicolor, where she served as a systems engineer for six years. Her diligence, intelligence, and integrity earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues throughout her long career. Yet, it was Shelia's faith that formed the bedrock of her life. From a young age, she committed her heart to Christ, and that commitment remained unwavering throughout her journey. She was an active member of Temple of God Inc., where she served faithfully as the church Treasurer and Secretary. Her voice filled the sanctuary as a lead singer in both the Youth and Adult Choirs, lifting up her congregation in praise. Shelia’s faith was not just something she practiced—it was the essence of who she was. She lived with grace, kindness, and an open heart, embodying the love of Christ in her everyday actions. Shelia was more than a mother, sister, and friend; she was the foundation for so many in her life. Her love knew no limits, extending to her family, friends, and community with a gentleness and care that left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered. Whether it was being the quiet strength behind someone’s struggles, offering a compassionate ear, or cheering on the successes of others, Shelia was always there—steadfast, loving, and true. She was the backbone for her family, a nurturing presence that made everyone feel seen, heard, and deeply valued. As a grandmother, Shelia’s love grew even deeper. Her grandchildren, Zane Fallen, Kaio Fallen, Zion Nelson, Luca Fallen, and Zahra Nelson, were her pride and joy. She adored them with all her heart, and her time spent with them was filled with laughter, warmth, and endless love. She cherished every moment, watching them grow and thrive, just as she had with her own children. On Sunday, October 13, 2024, Shelia was called home by the Lord. She fought a courageous battle and lived her life with grace, resilience, and unwavering faith. Though we mourn her absence from this world, we take comfort in knowing that she is at peace, free from pain, and resting in the arms of her Savior. She completed her journey here, and now she watches over us, present with the Lord. Shelia leaves behind a family who will forever treasure her memory and hold dear the joy she brought into their lives. She is survived by her beloved partner, Rick Fallen, who shared her life and love; her two devoted children, Tio Fallen (Kenzel) of Houston, TX, and Tia Harris-Nelson (Demond) of Atlanta, GA, who carry forward her legacy of strength and kindness; her siblings, Sandra Hines (Robert) of McDonough, GA, Robert Grant (Pamela) of Monroe, GA, and Sylvia Ann Stokes (Clinard) of Fayetteville, GA, who will always cherish their sister’s love and laughter; and her precious grandchildren, Zane, Kaio, Zion, Luca, and Zahra, who will grow up knowing their grandmother’s endless love. Shelia is also survived by her special cousin, Jacqueline “Jackie” Cooper Gardner, who held a unique place in her heart, as well as her additional loved ones, Terri Clarke (Stanley), Smyther Fallen, and Guy Fallen (Angela), who will forever carry her memory close. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends from her church and community will also continue to honor the beautiful spirit she shared with them. Though her time with us has ended, the love Shelia shared and the life she lived will never fade. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her, guiding us with her example of grace, faith, and unending love.
