Mr. Sanford Vellars Williams

Sanford Williams, age 76, of Atlanta, Georgia, peacefully passed away on December 29, 2024. Born on April 4, 1948, in Atlanta, he was the son of the late Sanford Williams Sr. and Verlen Jones. Sanford was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a friend to many. He leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and faith that will continue to inspire his family for generations. Sanford was united in marriage to his loving wife, Gwyndoline Williams, for 37 years. Together, they have two daughters Kayla and Verice Williams . Sanford was also the proud father of eight children: Levercia (Sandy) C. Williams, Terry Williams, Tony Williams-Towns, Shannon Carter, Carlotta Jackson, LeAnne (Victor) Lay, Chris Williams, and Corbin Williams. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Chris Williams. Sanford’s love expanded through the generations. He was a proud grandfather to Lakeidra Blount, Que’Sharrie Alexander, Kandise Williams, Aaliyah Williams, Jasmine Stephon-Owens, DaShon (Kierra) Owens-Slaughter, Lyric, Chase Lay, and a great-grandfather to Alondyn Rucker, Bernard Rucker, Alanna Rucker, Zy’Riah Blount, Braelynn, Brooklyn, London Mayo, Laila Jarrett, Josiah Jarrett, Tyler Rogers, Nalani, LaShawn, Kali Owens-Slaughter, and Taylor Towns. Sanford was preceded in death by his grandson, Antoine Alexander. Sanford was also the loving brother of LaRita (Harold) Reid and the late Alphonzo (Al) Williams. He leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and many devoted friends, including Clinton (Janice) Golston, who shared in his life journey. Sanford graduated from high school in 1966 and attended Atlanta Technical College, where he earned a degree in Carpentry. He worked for General Motors for over 28 years before retiring on July 1, 2007. Sanford was known for his exceptional work ethic and dedication throughout his career. Outside of work, Sanford had a deep love for grilling, carpentry, and spending time with his family. He was also a dedicated member of Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church. Sanford’s quiet strength, sense of humor, and unwavering commitment to his family and faith will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and love. Sanford’s life will be celebrated on January 9, 2025 at Rainbow Park Baptist Church at 11am. The family invites friends and loved ones to gather and remember Sanford’s remarkable life.
