Ruby Lee Jordan Thompson April 11, 1942 – November 24, 2024 Sister Ruby Lee Jordan Thompson, affectionately known as GG and Granny, transitioned peacefully to her eternal rest on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at the age of 82. Ruby was born on April 11, 1942, in Eatonton, GA, the second of thirteen children to the late KC and Ava Jordan. Ruby’s early years were spent in the close-knit community of Eatonton, where she enjoyed the love and camaraderie of her large family and many cousins. She attended Butler Baker School in Eatonton, where she often reminisced about the joyful memories of her childhood. In her early adulthood, Ruby moved to New Smyrna Beach, Florida, where she met and married her beloved husband, Moses Thompson, Sr. Together, they shared 48 years of love, support, and commitment until his passing in 2008. Ruby’s passion for learning led her to further her education at Community College in Daytona Beach, where she studied accounting. She later became a teacher’s aide, demonstrating a deep commitment to nurturing others. Ruby and her late husband Moses were devoted members of their Church. She served on the deaconess committee at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in New Smyrna Beach for many years before moving to Decatur, GA, and becoming a member of New Life Church, where she served for over 29 years. Although she was unable to attend in person the last few years, she faithfully watched and listened to New Life’s online services, often asking her caregivers, while she was hospitalized, to sit and watch with her. Ruby was a quiet, soft-spoken woman. Her love of fashion was also a defining aspect of her life. For over 40 years, Ruby worked in the retail fashion industry, using her impeccable sense of style to help others look and feel their best. Her contributions in various roles throughout her career were a testament to her dedication, work ethic, and genuine care for those around her. Ruby’s family was always her greatest joy. She was the loving mother of five biological children, three stepchildren, and an adoptive son: Eugene (deceased), Kathy, Irma, Edman (Assandra), Byron (Kimberly), Moses (Alfredia), Gail (Wayne), Darrell, Greg (Lynn), and adopted son Ira (Sno) Brown. Her grandchildren were a source of immense pride, and she cherished each one dearly: Lakeiva, Bobby (Ashley), Rashaunda, Thomas, Raymond, Candice, Marcus (Deshia), Joshua, Byron Jr., Amanda (Jeremy), Bradley, Nigel, Moses III, Lena, Darrell Jr., Isaiah, and Taylor. Her granddaughter, Shaquana, preceded her in death. Ruby was also blessed with a growing legacy of great-grandchildren: Erin, John, Kyra, Brenden, Jamoine, Shikera, Emory, Harper, Jaden, Zoe, and Jeremy Nyyear. Ruby leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and strength. She touched the hearts of many with her grace, warmth, gentle spirit, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her memory will forever be cherished by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings: Carrie, Ellen (Leonard), Johnnie Bell (Bennie), Lillie, Dorothy (Tilmon), Louis (KC), Roosevelt (Michelle), Annie (Richard), and Virginia, one Aunt, Lucy Jones, sister-in-law Wilhelmina, a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and others who all had the honor of knowing her.
