Roosevelt Howard

Obituary Roosevelt Howard was born October 23, 1939, in Warm Springs, Georgia. He was one of seven children born to Rosie Lee Willis Howard (deceased) and Willie Ben Howard (deceased). His siblings include: Willie Ben Howard (deceased), Johnny Will Howard (deceased), Edward Howard (deceased), Dorothy Jean Favors/ Howard (deceased), Gladys Carter/Howard, and Josephine Reese/Howard (deceased). Roosevelt attended school at Meriwether County where he completed the 12th grade. From a very young age Roosevelt, had the determination to achieve and excel in his schooling. He was a well-liked student and was very active in several sports, including baseball and basketball. Roosevelt was also respected as a cub scout leader in the local community of Manchester Georgia. Roosevelt married his high school sweet heart Gussie, and were blessed with two beautiful children Gregory and Rhonda. While his children were very young, Roosevelt relocated his family to Brooklyn New York. Roosevelt worked hard day and night to provide for his family. His colleagues often referred to him as Rosie and expressed that he was an extremely dedicated and dependable worker. While residing in New York, from time-to-time Roosevelt was able to return to his passion for education and he would enroll in college courses at a local university or community college. Roosevelt developed a love for travel and vacationing, so every year he would come home and say to his wife, “Gussie do you want to go?” Each time he asked, she could see the excitement in his eyes and she would always say “yes let’s go”. As a result, they travelled extensively, vacationing, cruising, and adventuring to places like Greece, Italy, Rome, Africa and Hawaii, to name a few. Notably, Roosevelt and Gussie resided in Hawaii for a time, while his son-in-law worked as a Soldier, stationed in the U. S Army, at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii. While residing in Hawaii, Roosevelt’s passion and thirst for education continued. During his stay in Hawaii, Roosevelt enrolled in several college courses at Brigham Young University. Roosevelt was a God-fearing man whose life reflected his love for the Lord. He was a devoted, dedicated, and loving husband and father. Roosevelt was self-driven to do more, learn more, and be his best in all his endeavors. He was the fearless leader. On January 4th, 2024 after courageously and silently battling several health illnesses Roosevelt was called home to his Maker. He is truly cherished by so many. Although he will be greatly missed, we have comfort in knowing he can now rest in the Arms of the Almighty, where his pain and suffering is no more.
