Mr. Robert Benjamin Lane

With hearts full of love and gratitude for a life well lived, we celebrate the life and legacy of Robert Benjamin Lane, affectionately known as “Rob,” “Ben,” and “Benjamin,” who peacefully entered eternal rest on Monday, June 8, 2026, at the age of 75. Robert was born on October 28, 1950, in Andrews, South Carolina, to the late Rev. Robert Lane Jr. and Mary Lewis Lane. Raised in a large and loving family, Robert grew up surrounded by faith, fellowship, and strong family values that would guide him throughout his life. He attended Rosemary High School and graduated with the Class of 1969. During his school years, he developed a passion for football and earned the nickname “Ploop” because of his remarkable skill and determination as a linebacker. Robert proudly served his country in the United States Army for four years, including service in Washington, D.C., and Germany. He was drafted in the Vietnam War where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Marksman M-16. His military service reflected the discipline, strength, and dedication that would characterize every area of his life. A hardworking and ambitious man, Robert built a career marked by excellence and perseverance. He worked as a top salesman for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and later pursued entrepreneurial ventures through his businesses in tree and stump removal and A Time to Be Loved Gifts. He also faithfully served in transportation roles with the DeKalb County School System and Park Springs. No matter the position, Robert was admired for his compassion, friendliness, strong work ethic, and “go-getter” spirit. On August 20, 1983, Robert married the love of his life, Elethia Woodruff Lane. Together they built a beautiful family grounded in faith, love, and laughter. Robert was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and cherished friend who treasured every moment spent with family. Robert lived life fully and joyfully. He loved traveling the world, attending sporting events, grilling, listening to gospel music, and sharing laughter through his endless jokes and stories. Whether enjoying gospel car jam sessions, trying new restaurants, or spending precious time with loved ones, Robert’s presence brought warmth and joy to every room. Family and friends describe him as kind, funny, lively, friendly, and deeply God-fearing. Faith was the foundation of Robert’s life. He was a devoted member of Breath of Life Ministries and Gospel of Salvation Ministry and was passionate about evangelizing and spreading the Word of God. One of the lessons he consistently shared was to “put God first and then family,” and to always show love and give your very best. His favorite saying, “Love is what love does,” reflected the way he lived every day. Robert never met a stranger. His giving heart, loving spirit, and unwavering devotion to God, family, friends, and community created a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him. Though a great pillar has fallen, his love, wisdom, laughter, and faith will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Elethia Lane; his children, Roberta Lane Conyers, Jerusha Lane, Dustin Lane, Elissha Lane Tate (Desmond Tate), Jonathan Lane; his granddaughter, Kendra Linen; his great-grandchild, Ja’Mari Linen; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends. He also leaves behind his loving siblings: Rev. Dr. John (Janet) Lane of Lexington, South Carolina; Michael (Eboni) Lane of Columbia, Tennessee; Cynthia Lane (Rev. Samuel) Davis of Andrews, South Carolina; Carolyn Lane (Rev. Elder B.) Holmes of Georgetown, South Carolina; Wilhelmena Lane Adams of Florence, South Carolina; Ruby Lane (Carl) LaSane of Hemingway, South Carolina; Ethel Lane Brown of Florence, South Carolina; and Dr. Melissia Lane Boyd of Elgin, South Carolina. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Robert Lane Jr. and Mary Lewis Lane; his brother, Anthony Jerome Lane; and his grandson, Michael Conyers Jr.
