Mr. Ridgeley LaMarr Young

Ridgeley’s Story A Star is Born Ridgeley LaMarr Young was born in Chicago, Illinois on September 10, 1963, to the late Willie N. Young and Edna Ruth Young. He was the eldest of two children which he adored being a big brother to his sister Judi LaVerne. During his early teens, Ridge, as he was affectionately called, was Confirmed by the Methodist Church and continued dedicating his life to Christ until the time God called him home. A Time to Educate Ridge was educated through the Chicago School system. He graduated from Mendel Catholic Preparatory School in 1981. He was determined to attend an HBCU and was accepted to Fisk University where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1986. While attending Fisk, he played baseball and pledged Omega Psi Phi, Eta Psi chapter in 1982. Ridge was very mindful of staying active through service. He was affiliated with the Iota Alpha chapter in Knoxville, TN and last year he joined the Kappa Alpha Alpha Grad chapter in Decatur, Georgia. He was also a member of the Rock City Lodge #272 F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge. A Time to Work While finishing his bachelor’s in business/economics, Ridge was offered an Internship with PepsiCo. After graduation he moved to Atlanta to accept a management position with Kentucky Fried Chicken. After many years of service with KFC, he decided to shift careers and became an employee with the United States Postal service where he worked as a Carrier and in Management. A Time for Family In 1989, Ridge was introduced to the love of his life, Kimberly by a fellow Fiskite. Ironically, that Fiskite was Kim’s big sister Angela (Grier)! Kim and Ridge married on September 5, 1992. To this union, three beautiful children were born: Rashaun Marcel, Kourtney Rae, and Kyra Raychel. Those Left to Carry the Torch Ridge leaves to cherish his precious memories a devoted wife Kimberly; a doting son, Rashaun; two loving daughters, Kourtney and Kyra; one loving sister, Judi LaVern Barksdale (Kenneth); one Brother-In-Law, Clarence Andre Grier (Thelma); two Sisters-In-Law, Angela McMillion and Stephanie Simon (Kenny); 6 nephews, Kenyon Barksdale, Kameron Simon, Christopher Grier, Aaron Fuller (Brittany), Delray Fuller, C. Andre’ Grier Jr. (Sarah); one niece, Kamille Simon; two great nieces, Arielle Fuller and Ruby Grier; as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and loving friends. Services to Honor the Life and Legacy of Ridgeley L. Young will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026 at Gregory B. Levett and Sons Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. 4347 Flat Shoals Pkwy Decatur, GA. 30034. Interment Lincoln Cemetery. Family, friends, and those touched by Ridgeley's warmth; visitation will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2026 from 4-8 PM.
