Portia Mary Bonair

Portia Mary Bonair was born June 27, 1952 in Arima, Trinidad, West Indies, to Dudley and Olive Bonair (Granny). Before turning 21, Portia moved to the “states” and later, both she and Granny became US citizens. Portia gained certifications in computer processing and throughout her time living in Brooklyn, NY worked at Avanti, Metropolitan Life, CBS Records and Kings County Hospital as an accounting analyst. Once moving to Georgia, Portia’s business acumen lead her to hold positions with Sears Credit, Grady Hospital and Atlanta Gas. Despite having an impressive professional resume, Portia’s greatest accomplishments, of which she was most proud, were raising her daughter, Paulette, and being a grandmother. As a mom, Portia worked hard to provide a beautiful home and access to the best education for her daughter. As a grandmother, Portia was relentless in making sure the boys succeeded academically. She traded in her car for a van and carpooled the boys, tutored, home-schooled and helped to keep the boys grounded in Christ. As family and friends share fond memories of Portia, everyone mentions her laughter, bright smile and sense of humor. She could beat you in scrabble only to find hidden letters under the board. She would play you at cards only to find extra cards in her hand and she was always the fun one in the group. Portia’s presence always lit any room she entered. Portia leaves to cherish her memory; Daughter: Paulette Rogers; Son-in-law: Fred Rogers, Jr.; Grandsons: Adonai Paul-Anthony Rogers; Jonathan Mark-Anthony Rogers; Jadon Jon-Anthony Rogers and Timothy Jay-Anthony Rogers. Step-Grandsons: Monte Caldwell; Terrance Caldwell; Sister: Patricia Fermin, her husband Montgomery Fermin and their children Nicole Fermin; Jacqueline Fermin and Benedict Fermin; Sister: Paulette Maheu and children Mark-Anthony Noreiga; Max-Ann Alexander, her husband Rashaan Alexander; Mario Maheu; cousins, extended family and friends.
