Phyllis Margaret Liggins

The spirit of Phyllis Liggins was born on July 5, 1937, to Cleota Schluter Smith and Jesse W. Schluter Sr. in Springfield, Illinois. She was the third child of four siblings, Jesse Schluter, Jr. Ann Schluter, Ramsey, and Don A. Schluter, all of whom preceded her in death. Her stepfather was William A. Smith. Phyllis was a fun-loving person growing up; she loved her family and always looked forward to visits. She was overjoyed when given the opportunity to name a few of her uncle and aunt's children who lived in Springfield. Once she came of age, Phyllis decided to migrate further north to Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There, she was greeted and welcomed by more family members. Milwaukee is where she laid down roots, giving birth to a baby girl, Carol Renee Randall, who preceded her in death. Phyllis was such a loving, caring mother, and Carol Renee was the apple of her eye. While in Milwaukee, Carole Renee would give birth to a baby boy, Donte Randall. He was the love and joy of his mother's and grandmother's lives. Phyllis met and married the love of her life, George Liggins. George bought into this union three sons: Joe Jefferson, who preceded him in death, Michael Jefferson, and Fredrick Liggins. Phyllis loved and adored his sons and treated them like her very own. Both Phyllis and George were members of Christ The King Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend John McVicker. They genuinely enjoyed their church home and looked forward to each Sunday service. Carol Renee later moved from Milwaukee to Augusta, Georgia, where she worked as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for the United States Army. Phyllis decided to move to Augusta after the death of her husband in June of 2008 to be close to her daughter and grandson. Once there, she felt her life being fulfilled again. Phyllis was excited once again about her growing family, especially the birth of her great-great-grandson. She loved being on the phone telling the family about the new baby. Every day, Phyllis would call someone to chat and talk for hours. To know her, you knew she was very long-winded, and her conversations were never short, but she always made you feel so special while talking with her. While living in Georgia, Phyllis looked forward to her visits with family, especially with her son Fredrick, her niece, Kim Schluter, and cousin Rev Dr. Tolokun Omokunde. Phyllis often spoke of her caretakers, Sherry and Meisha. They became her family.
