**Obituary for Peggy Genell Gordon** Peggy Genell Gordon was born on April 10, 1935 to Gussie Mae Parker and James Mack Hinton in Northport, Alabama. As the youngest of seven (7) siblings, she was tenderly raised in a home where faith, family values, and compassion shaped the foundation of her life. Peggy accepted Christ at an early age and became a devoted member of Porter St. Paul CME Church, where her faith became the steady anchor of her life. She graduated from Alabama State University and began teaching in the Alabama School System. On December 31, 1963, Peggy was united in holy matrimony to her devoted husband, James Gordon. Together, they embarked upon a beautiful journey that began as a military family before planting lasting roots in Atlanta, Georgia. She poured herself wholeheartedly into the roles she cherished as a wife, mother, and the heart of her family. She was the proud and deeply dedicated mother of two beloved children, Pamela L. Gordon and James R. Gordon; and a loving mother-in-law to Amanda Gordon. Her greatest joy was her precious grandson, Jacoryius D. Gordon, who held a profoundly special place in her heart. She also adored Peyton, the family’s fur-baby. For over 25 years, Peggy served with distinction in the Atlanta Public School system. She was passionate about helping children learn and advance. Her patience and encouragement were a steady presence that le a lasting impression on students and colleagues throughout her career. Peggy was a longtime member of New Spirit United Methodist Church, where she served as the Gospel Choir president; Chairperson of the Finance Committee; Chairperson of the Trustees, Usher Board and a founding member of the Food Ministry. She was dedicated to spending her time and spirit in service to the Lord. Peggy was the cornerstone of her family. She was the glue who held everyone together with warmth, wisdom, and love. She had a gift for cooking that was matched only by her gift for hospitality. As the consummate hostess, she made certain that everyone felt welcomed, comfortable, and ate to their heart’s content. Her table was always set with love; and her kitchen carried the kind of warmth that lingered long a er each meal was done. Her joyful laughter was contagious and filled every corner of a room. Her wisdom was earned through faith and experience. She offered it gently but firmly to those who needed direction. Peggy believed in keeping family close; standing firmly in truth and showing up for everyone she loved. Peggy Gordon departed this life on May 17, 2026, leaving behind a legacy that words cannot fully capture. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents and siblings (Johnnie Mae Ivory; Queen Esther Fain; James Joseph Hinton; Lulu Belle Robertson; Hattie Lee Layton and Robert Lee Hinton). She is survived by her husband; children; grandson; and extended family including nieces, nephews and loved ones. Her indelible love, enduring strength, and abiding faith will forever remain woven into the hearts of all who had the privilege of calling her family, friend, and blessing. It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Peggy Genell Gordon, a beloved mother, sister, and esteemed educator, who left us on May 17th, 2026, at the age of 91. Peggy peacefully departed this world from her cherished home in Stone Mountain, Georgia, surrounded by love. A Visitation will be held in Peggy’s honor at the Gregory B. Family, friends, and all whose lives she touched are invited to gather and pay their respects. The Celebration of Life service, a tribute to Peggy’s remarkable journey, will take place at New Spirit United Methodist Church in Atlanta, GA, on Wednesday, May 27th, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
