McNally, Paul Fredrick Jr. Matthew 5:4 “Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.” It is with both heaviness and hope in our hearts that we mourn the sudden loss of a father, a son, a brother, a friend --Paul McNally, Jr. In life, Paul strove to build something meaningful. Married to his high school sweetheart and father to his much-loved son, he maintained a career as a skilled technician in a specialized trade. Throughout the twisting courses of his journey, Paul was always a driven person who pursued his desires with a kind of dogged exuberance. Sadly, one such pursuit would eventually end in the loss of his life on Saturday, February 5th 2022, when Paul succumbed to his ongoing battle with addiction. Born the eldest son to Paul F McNally, Sr. and Chandra K Herring McNally, Paul Jr. was a loving brother to Richard Sean McNally, Melissa McNally, Heather Leigh McNally (Jessii), and Christopher Anthony McNally. Paul is preceded in death by his mother and sister Melissa and most recently, his brother Sean. Burdened by the early losses of his baby sister and Mother, Paul experienced a tumultuous youth anchored by the love and sheltering received from many guiding lights. He often credited his beloved Paw-Paw Jerry Herring, best friend and (other) brother Kenny Gurganus and his second mother Joy Woodside for providing substance to help him develop into manhood. With his glass-half-full outlook, Paul was easily able to find and create pockets of joy. A lover of live music and his hometown sports teams, Paul craved community, simplicity and spiritual growth. He possessed an enormous empathy and discernment for people and would compulsively take on the responsibilities of others. Most wounding perhaps is the loss of this person’s potential. Paul’s plans were far from complete. He looked forward to growing and nurturing the relationship with his son in North Carolina as well as supporting family ties with his young nephew. To serve Paul’s legacy of healing through honest we desire to combat the stigma surrounding the opioid epidemic. Paul’s family and friends will remember and celebrate the core of who he was. His capacity for care, his easy humor and gentle spirit. Paul is survived by his son, Gabriel Quinton McNally, whom he was eternally proud of and grateful for.
