Patricia Braz-Wright

Patricia Braz-Wright, age 61, of Atlanta, GA, passed away peacefully at home on November 24, 2024. Born on August 3, 1963, in Georgetown, Guyana, Patricia was the beloved daughter of Herman and Dahlia Braz. She was a proud graduate of Clara Barton High School for Health Professions (1981), and went on to earn her B.A. in Biopsychology from Vassar College in 1985. Patricia continued her academic journey, receiving her M.D. from Albert Einstein School of Medicine in 1989. In 2010, she earned her Master of Public Health from Emory University. Patricia completed her Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency at Emory University Medical School in 1993, before opening her own private practice. She dedicated herself to her patients and the field of medicine for many years, until a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis in 2002 led her to make the difficult decision to sell her practice and retire from active medical practice. Outside of her professional life, Patricia was deeply involved in her community. She was a proud member of the Atlanta chapter of the Rebecca Lee Society, an Acteen Adult Leader at Greater Travelers Rest Baptist Church (GTRBC), PTA President at Decatur High School, Treasurer of her Homeowners Association, and a board member of Our House. Her commitment to service, especially to children and families, was a testament to her caring and giving spirit. Patricia was known for her strength, kindness, thoughtfulness, and unwavering optimism. Whether hosting family holidays, offering a listening ear, or simply being present for her loved ones, she was always a source of support and warmth. Her family and friends could always count on her, and her presence will be profoundly missed. A woman of diverse passions, Patricia loved running and participated in numerous Peachtree Road Races. She fulfilled a lifelong dream by learning to play the piano for the last 10 years. She also enjoyed dancing, watching movies, solving daily crosswords, playing Sudoku, baking, scrapbooking, and cherishing quality time with her family. Her zest for life and her commitment to personal growth were evident in all she did. Patricia was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Dahlia Braz. She is survived by her former husband, Degas, and their two children, Leland and Cydne (Cooper), and 5 siblings. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on December 7, 2024, at 1999 Hwy 138 SE, Conyers, GA 30013. The repast will immediately follow the service at 4280 Sandstone Shores Dr. Lithonia, Ga 30038.
