O'Hara Donnell Hudson

O’Hara Donnell Hudson was born November 8,1948 in Tallahassee, Florida to Willie A. Hudson, Sr. and Edith Woody Hudson. O’Hara’s father and sister, Barbara Joyce Hudson preceded him in death. As a youth O’Hara was a very dutiful big brother to his siblings Willie and Barbara. For several years he worked as a caddy at a Tallahassee golf course and would bring home the money he earned to his brother, sister, and mother. During his experience at the golf club, O’Hara developed an interest in the sport. He taught his brother the fundamentals of golf and they enjoyed playing together in many places around Florida and Georgia. His educational training included Bond Elementary, Nims Junior High, and Lincoln High School in Tallahassee, Florida. O’Hara received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology from Florida A&M University on March 18, 1971. After graduation, O’Hara was inducted into the United States Army on June 23,1971 and received an honorable discharge on June 22, 1973. While in the military, he completed training to become a Correctional Specialist and Military Policeman. O’Hara was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter (Rifle). Additionally, one of his fellow soldiers and friend said O’Hara served with a very positive attitude. After his discharge from the army, the Federal Bureau of Prisons employed O’Hara. Later he worked as a Job Placement Specialist in the Georgia Department of Corrections. In 1978, O’Hara was employed at General Motors Corporation in Doraville, GA and worked in several positions until his retirement in 2008. At an early age, O’Hara confessed Christ and became a member of Shady Grove #1 Primitive Baptist Church in Tallahassee, Florida. In 1986 he joined and became an active, committed member of Saint Philip AME Church in Atlanta, GA. His favorite Scripture was Proverbs Chapter 3. O’Hara was a member of the George Moore/Sarah Allen Usher Board and the Steward Board. During late winter and early spring, he worked tirelessly with the Youth Basketball League at Saint Philip AME Church. In recent years, O’Hara spoke once a week by telephone to his aunt Emma Mae who lived in New Jersey. Almost daily, O’Hara called his mother and brother who live in Tallahassee, Florida and he drove to Tallahassee frequently to visit his mother. In addition to playing golf, O’Hara enjoyed riding his motorcycle, driving his red Corvette and Chevrolet Silverado truck. He took pleasure in making household repairs too. O’Hara’s legacy will live on in his wife Vivian and daughter Chryse’; mother, Rev. Edith Holiday Austin (Robert); brother Willie A. Hudson, Jr. (Delores); a special aunt Marie Colson; sister-in-law Bessie Hill; niece Tamara Williams (Carlton) and great niece and nephew Taylor and Tyler Williams. He also leaves to cherish his memory, nephews Michael and David Hill; nieces Barbara Hill, Joyce Green, Beverly Hill-Sallet, Wanda Henderson, Janet Hill and a host of other relatives and friends.
