Nathaniel Hood

Nathaniel “Nate” Hood slipped into eternal peace on September 12th, 2020 at his home in Braselton, Georgia having been called from labor and pain to his heavenly reward. Nate was born on June 16th, 1952 in Brooklyn, New York. He was one of eleven children (five brothers and six sisters) born to Rose Mae Hood. He received his formal education in the New York City Public School system and later served four years in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Nate held many positions throughout his life but his favorite work environment was with the Black Veterans Association of Brooklyn. All his life, Nate served as a social activist always working towards change for his community and his people. Nate really enjoyed his visit to the Vietnam Memorial and the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C. Nate found great pleasure in helping other veterans secure their enabling rights. Nate expressed his creative abilities through his paintings and interior decorating skills. Nate loved playing chess and he was a movie fanatic. On September 12th, 2003, Nate married his beloved wife Sherrie, in Brooklyn, New York. Nate and Sherrie enjoyed traveling together especially to Orlando, Las Vegas, and their many Caribbean cruises with family and friends. Nate embraced Islam following the applications of the Qur’an for many years. Nate respected all religions. Nathaniel was well like by everyone who knew him. Precious memories will always be with his best friends; Jerome (Mustafa) and Stacey, Don and June, Al, Bill, Peter and Lisa. They were better known as his running buddies for life. Nate was always willing to help anyone with his down to earth philosophy on life, his amazing sense of humor and wit. Nate was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. Those left behind to cherish Nate’s precious love, his wit, and forever memories are his beloved and inseparable wife Sherrie; his children Nathaniel, Natalie, Robert and David; his grandchildren; Brittany, Kaseem, Jasmine, Kamryn, Michael, Mia, Nathaniel III, Samara and Bryce, his special sister Claudette, two sisters in-law Linda and Sheila, three brothers in-law Michael (Belkys), Lionel (Jennifer), Andre (Clara). A host of nephews and nieces (Randy, Nathan, Melanie, Ethan, Dimitri, and Makayla). Nate was very proud of all his grandchildren especially his newborn grandson Nathaniel III whom he affectionally called Lil’ Hercules. The family is grateful for Nate’s life. Nate was an inspiration to many, always giving unselfishly of his time and knowledge to others. We love him but God loves him best. Due to Covid - 19 a mask is required before entering the facility.
