Monica May Edwards

MONICA MAY EDWARDS, daughter of the late Cryll Edwards and Aladile Edwards, was born November 09, 1939, in Kingston, Jamaica. Monica received her formative education in Jamaica. She came to the United States in the 70’s where she lived in the Bronx, New York. She had to make sacrifices to ensure a certain quality of life for her family and coming to America from Jamaica afforded her the opportunity to make that happen. After decades living in New York working as a CNA, she retired, bought a home and moved to Loganville, Georgia. She lived in Georgia until she departed this life on January 29, 2022. Monica was the last girl born to her parents, showing that the third time was a charm. With so many dreams and aspirations, a new family plan was needed. She didn't go to college, but she worked that much harder and at times met some difficult challenges but that never stopped her. With or without a degree, she had the same American dream as other; "A house with the white picket fence, but no dog." She worked hard to make her dream a reality. Monica was a wonderful mother of three children. Her love and affection were a meaningful part of her life with her children and grandchildren. Anyone who can raise three children independently is undoubtedly a strong woman. With little support, Monica was able to lead by example and teach her children how to survive in life and be respectful and respected. Monica gave her kids the opportunity to pursue their dreams by giving them the creative space and support. Her kids today are; Donna the accomplished Marine; Ricky the determined entrepreneur and Michael the hard-working college graduate. These are just some examples of how Monica raised her children to reach for their dreams. In addition to caring for her kids, she loved taking care of others. Her home was a gathering place for fellowship, fun and relaxation. Monica was a well-respected woman in her community. People everywhere sought after her for her wisdom, kind spirit and pure heart. Monica had a smile and heart bigger than New York itself. Her love for life was contagious and attracted others to her. She always saw the brighter side of every situation. A lady of class who loved the finer things in life surrounded herself with her own creation and style. She loved Jamaican cuisine and knew exactly how to warm the heart. Whatever and however she could extend hospitality, she did. There was never anything too much that she would not do for others. Monica gave us all a gift of love. Monica leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Donna Sturridge; two sons, Andrew Sturridge, Michael Patterson; two sisters, Dorothy Edwards, Verna Chambers; grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Although she leaves many behind, she goes to Glory to join her parents and one brother, the late Jackie Edwards, (a Reggae Artist). Monica will never be forgotten and will forever be loved. She was the nucleus of her family. Through her family, her legacy will live on. She will truly be missed and leaves fond memories to treasure. Celebration of Life Services for Monica Edwards will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 4:00PM. These services will be recorded and streamed live.
