Minnie D Adams-Barnes

Minnie Adams Barnes was born March 8, 1937 to the late Bessie C. Gaines and Lenzie T. Gaines in Hartwell, Georgia. God called her home on Monday January 5, 2026 at Emory Hospital in Decatur, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Haywood W. Barnes and by five brothers and two sisters. After growing up in Hartwell, GA and graduating from Hart County High School, she moved to New England where she married the late Clifford Adams, who passed away in 1971. In 1976, she moved back to Georgia with her two young boys, Mark and Russell, where she married Mr. Haywood Barnes, who also had three sons, Eric, Kendrick and Kenneth Barnes. Together, they created a home where love, responsibility, and hard work were the core values of their blended family. Minnie is fondly remembered for her long and distinguished career in retail management, where she worked for many years with JCPenny’s and Walmart. Her commitment to her profession, her colleagues, and the many customers she served over the years left an indelible mark on those who knew her. Minnie was a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a great grandmother, an aunt, a sister, a provider, a caregiver, and a true friend to many. She went by many names— Minnie, Dee, Mom, Ma, grandma, and Nana just to name a few. Regardless of what you called her, you knew she loved you— freely and unconditionally. She leaves a legacy of faithfulness, selflessness, kindness, honesty, compassion, resilience, determination and hard work. Most importantly, Minnie was a woman of faith, who accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She worshipped regularly at Greater Traveler’s Rest Baptist Church and at Beulah Baptist Church before her health declined. She leaves behind to cherish her memory and legacy; five sons: Russell Adams, Mark Adams, Kenneth Barnes, Kendrick Barnes, and Eric (Cherolyn) Barnes, all of Georgia; daughter; June (Curtis) Dennis of Miami, Fla; one sister-in-law: Mrs. Sarah Wilkens of Cincinnati, OH; eleven grand-children; eight great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends. A memorial service to celebrate Minnie’s life will be held on Friday, January 16th, 2026, at 11:00 am at Gregory B. Levett & Son Funeral Home, located at the Flat Shoals Location in Decatur, Georgia. Family, friends, and all whose lives Minnie touched are invited to gather in her honor. The Celebration of Life Service for Minnie D. Barnes will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026 at 11:00AM.
