Mel Carter

Melvin (Mel) Carter, 47, of Atlanta GA, passed away peacefully in his home on November 25 2016. Born on March 10, 1969 in Brooklyn NY, Mel attended Virginia State University. He went on to pursue a career in the music industry of which he took by storm. Mel is most recognized for his dedication, love and undeniable passion for music. He was a mentor to many in the industry and took pride in standing up for what was right and always defending what and who he believed in. Mel was a force that moved in silence but whose impact was heard loudly. His lasting presence confirmed he stood strong in his truth. Mel’s contribution to the industry will far exceed his days and it will live on for generations beyond our sight. Mel’s greatest reward was being a loving and devoted father to his two children, Hannah and Mel Carter. His family, friends and loved ones are filled with gratitude knowing that his legacy continues on. Heaven has gained a soldier and we have gained an angel. In the resonating words of Mel himself, whatever dream you have “Let’s make it happen!” Mel is survived by his two children, Hannah & Mel Carter; His Dad - Percy Royster (Pops); Step-Sister Crystal Scott and her two children Kai & Tre; His Uncle Elliot Carter; His cousins Mecheline Muhammad, Felicia Carter, Sharnette Carter, Raymond Carter, Joy Carter, Dawn Shupe, James Carter, Martin (Marty) Cooper, Shawn Smith and Nina Walker and an incredibly beautiful amount of extended family, friends and loved ones. He was preceded in death by his Mother - Betty Carter; Father - William Thomas Gilliard and his Grandparents Kenrick and Melvina Carter. A special Salute of Gratitude, Love and Appreciation to the following: YoGotti, Corey Gibson, Andre Stubbs, Raekwon, Christina Lee, Hanna Kang, Henry Peterson, Dirk Christiani, Brandon Carillo, Gary Owens, Malik Carey, Nino Villanova, Tyrone Walker, Phil Martin and Eric Plowden.
