Maynard "Jamaal" Blackmon

Maynard Blackmon III aka “Jamaal” aka “Man” was born on June 13, 1972 in Harvey, Illinois to the union of Maynard and Betty Blackmon. Maynard grew up in Matteson, Illinois and was educated in the Matteson-Richton Park school system. In 1991 he graduated from Rich South High School and attended Kishwaukee College in Malta, Illinois. In 1993 Maynard attended Moler’s Barber College and became a Master Barber at Roy’s Barber Shop Calumet Park Illinois. In 1995 he relocated to Atlanta, Georgia and began working at South Dekalb Mall Barber Shop in Decatur, Georgia. In 2000 he became a firefighter with the Griffin Fire Department in Griffin Georgia where he served for five years. In 2005 Maynard returned to his passion of cutting hair/hair design. He began working at various Barber Shops in the Atlanta area and most recently employed at Furious Styles in Kennesaw Georgia. Maynard also studied nursing and received his EMC certification. Maynard had a need for speed. From his first dirt bike which his dad surprised him with as a kid; to his Kawasaki Ninja racing sport bike. He was a member of the #1 Stunnas Motorcycle Club where he enjoyed riding/racing. Man also had a passion for a variety of different styles music from House, to Hip Hop to 80s Rock in Roll to Rhythm and Blues. Maynard inherited and eclectic taste of music from his mother. He loved Chicago Style House Music. He enjoyed attending “House in the Park” each year and got his groove on. Maynard was a free spirit/free thinker who loved to absorb and share knowledge about various spiritual paths of life. Maynard was a member of the Nuwabien Nation where he learned, spoke, and taught about their beliefs and their philosophies of life. He enjoyed reading, learning, and deep conversations. Maynard was not a talk about the weather kind of person. He would love to pull information and emotion out of people, but he gave it as well. Maynard loved animals and had a special love for his late Rottweiler, Moe and current Rottweiler, Faygo. The kitties and cats loved Maynard and he loved them too. On Sunday, September 6, 2020 God called Man home. He leaves to cherish in his memory, his loving mother Mrs. Betty Blackmon-Hoskins, his father Maynard Blackmon Jr, one daughter Nina Blackmon, one son Ellis Wilson Blackmon, two sisters Stephanie Blackmon, Melissa Blackmon (Braylin), one brother, Travis Pearson (Andria) , three nephews, Jonathan Blackmon, Steven Walker, Knox Pearson, three nieces, Reese Pearson, Sage Elizabeth Pearson, Vivian Inez Pearson, one great nephew Jaqwon Blackmon, special friend Jackie Parrott, best childhood, friend/brother Arthel “Scooter” Graham and a host of many cousins, extended family and friends.
