Mrs. Mary Jacobs

Mary Louise Jacobs was born on February 5, 1933, born to Ethel and Russell Jenkins, Sr. Mary was the oldest of four children. From an early age, Mary's faith was a guiding force in her life, as she accepted Christ at Turner Monumental AME Church and later made Saint Mark AME Church her cherished home. Education played a pivotal role in Mary's journey, as she attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School for her elementary education. As a proud graduate of David T. Howard High School, class of 1951, Mary's thirst for knowledge led her to Morris Brown College, where she pursued a degree in education. At Morris Brown College, Mary met the love of her life, Daniel W Jacobs, Sr. On June 4, 1955, they embarked on a lifelong journey together, bound by love and shared dreams. Mary's dedication to shaping young minds led her to a fulfilling career in teaching. Starting in 1955, she dedicated herself to the Atlanta Public School System, leaving an indelible impact on the lives of countless students. Mary's passion for the arts extended beyond the classroom, as she founded the Jacobs School of Dance in the late 1970s. For over 50 years, she nurtured and inspired young dancers, exposing them to the beauty of dance across the globe. From Paris, France, to New York City, and even Mexico, Mary’s students experienced the transformative power of dance in various cultural landscapes. Mary’s legacy lives on through those who loved and admired her journey through life. She leaves her memories to be treasured by her loving and devoted husband of 68 years, Reverend Dr. Daniel W Jacobs, Sr., a faithful sister, Vicki Tilman (Jerry), a loving sister-in-law, Betty Copeland; three devoted children; sons, Daniel W Jacobs, Jr. ( Donna), Reginald E. Jacobs Sr. (Brenda), daughter Dana Michelle Jacobs; grandchildren Daniel W Jacobs III, Demarcus Jacobs, Micheal Jacobs Sr., Reginald Jacobs Jr., Crystal Jacobs, Joshua Jacobs; great-grandchildren Micaiah Jacobs and Micheal Jacobs Jr., and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. As we celebrate Mary's life, we honor her enduring spirit and the love she shared with all who knew her. Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched as an educator and a mentor. Mary Louise Jacobs will forever be remembered for her unwavering dedication to the arts, her commitment to education, and her loving presence in the lives of her family and friends.
