Mark Allen Zahn

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mark Allan Zahn who died suddenly on June 30, 2025. Mark was born in Billings, Montana to Kay and Andrew Zahn. Although he loved Montana, Mark wanted an adventure and to see the world so he joined the Navy. Mark was able to travel to many destinations around the globe eventually settling in and calling his home Atlanta, where he lived for the last 26 years. Mark is preceded in death by his mother Kay Zahn, brother Gary Zahn, nephew, Kevin Zahn, paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Adam and Annie Zahn and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl and Lillian Gallagher. Mark is survived by his husband and partner in life Scott Dunkle , his father Andy Zahn, sister Tammi Z Perdew(Kris) of Boise, ID, brothers Ken Zahn, Ron Zahn, and David Zahn, all of Billings, MT, as well as several nieces and nephews and his very close friend of nearly four decades Michael Cannady of Savannah, GA. For those that knew Mark knew of the unwavering kindness and generosity he shared and would do anything he could for those he loved. He valued friendship and surrounded himself with people of integrity and great character. He, along with Scott, built a strong foundation in Atlanta with the ones they also considered their family. He loved them without question and is also survived by Bob Davies, Tammy Martin, and Starla Skelton. Mark served many years in the US Navy. He was an FC1 and spent time on the DDG38 USS Luce at Naval Station Mayport in Jacksonville, FL. After the ship was decommissioned, he went to The Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, VA from where he later retired. During his last few years in the Navy, Mark volunteered with the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, MD, in all phases of clinical trials in their effort to test and develop medicines aimed at HIV prevention and treatment, some of which are being widely used today. Mark will be remembered for his kind and generous heart and positive outlook on living life to its fullest! He impacted everyone with whom he came in contact. Information for a Memorial Service/Celebration of Life will be forthcoming.
